Looking at a '41

My wife and I are looking into a 1941 pickup. The problem is it has no bed or rear guards, also it is a 2ton truck. Were the 2 ton very different from the lighter ones? I know it had dual wheels, but are there any other differences? Is it hard to get rear guards for it?
I should add I am in New Zealand I guess.
Thanks,
Shane

do you mean the rear fenders (guards) ? I would guess that most if not all 2 ton trucks never had rear fenders, most of those truck probably had utility or flatbeds etc on them?

The cabs should be the same but the front fenders are larger (have larger wheel openings to acommodate the larger tires and wheels) I suppose you could possibly build a bed for it and fabricate some fenders to fit over the dual's?
the frame and rear axles are pretty heavy on a 2 ton truck though.

I'm sure someone who knows these years truck better than myself will be along shortly to help. I'm mostly on the 48-60 forum.

here is a picture of the 41 I found yesterday, I really want it too!

cheers

Josh

A 2 ton had either a flatbed, dump bed, stake bed, grain bed, or was simply sold as a chassis-cab unit, with no bed at all so the end user can add their own bed. You have no rear fenders on the truck since there are no rear fenders for them. It isn't unusual to find a big truck missing the bed since many times they were removed and the bed reused on another truck. The cab is similar across all ton ratings, however that's about where the simlarities end. The fenders and hood are different from the half ton models. The truck in the posting above is a COE model, the conventional 2 ton truck had a different front end, with a longer hood and the cab set further back on the chassis. If you can get a good deal, the truck would be a good project depending on condition. You don't find as many of the big trucks brought back to life anymore.

No.....instead...

No, we passed, as it was a 2 ton dual rear wheel truck, far to big for what we wanted.
We bought a 1955 F100 instead, which we plan to restore.....
