Well I finally finished installing my new champion plugs today. What a pain in the @$$! I followed the TSB, even let them soak longer than recommended, and 4 plugs still broke. So after a week I finally got them all out. But here's the problem, my truck is now making a clicking sound. It sounds like its coming from inside the motor but hard to tell. Is it possible that say a small rock or something is bouncing around inside of there?
I dont think it is cause the noise sounds like its coming from the passangers side and all the plugs that broke were on the drivers side. Is it anything to worry about or will whatever is in there just end up bouncing out?
your not hearing the cam phasers are you. alot of the time when i do a large project like that i tend to over listen to the motor after and hear stuff that i think is new but has been doing it for a while i just never paid any attention. or is it very loud and solid sounding hits?
No its something new, the cam phasers made some noise before and still do. This new noise is more of a clicking/sqeaking sound. It never made it before the plug change.
Yes I cleaned out the holes with air. I spent a fair bit of time doing each one because i feared something like this would happen. I'm praying to god that maybe its just a plug not sealed properly, but I torqued them all to 25 ftlbs
you should remove the suspected plugs and check carfuly if new plugs have signs of damage and try to look in cylinder if you can identify the faulty one . I would start engine without plug run for 5 to 10 seconds and hope it comes out good luck.
My 2003/F150's been making ticking sound since 30K miles. More noticiable now after 90K. Sound most prominent with load on engine between 700-900 RPMs. Ticking goes away above 900 rpm. Sounds like a weak or collapsed lifter. Plan on completing rocker arm adjustment before pulling the intake and replacing lifters. Any recommendations?
Is it possible that while changing the plugs you damaged one or more of the boots connecting the plugs to the coils. Often, these boots become weakened due to normal driving conditions and when you remove them they can crack its been my experience that the boots on number 3 and 4 have to bee bent pretty good to get them out. You may also want to inspect the spring inside the boot. It may not have sealed tightly enough aganist the plug, if it is not firmly againist the plug you may slightly pull the spring to stretch it to allow proper contact. Any of these could be causing a spark to occur causing a ticking sound. If your plugs were not tightly installed you should be smelling burnt fuel when the truck is running. I bet your just jumping fire somewhere between the coil and plug.
