well it looks like a possible new tranny coming soon. I got this code the other day and took it and had it scanned. It has something to do with 3rd gear. I then took it to a tranny guy and I told him my code and he said " thats not good" He scanned it for me also after the first time it was cleared and it did not show the code. He asked me if the overdrive light was blinking and it has not been. It runs good shifts fine and acts normal. The code is not on now. Is it possible its just a fluke and its not a real big issue or is my 3rd gear getting ready to fall out from under me? I told him I was getting ready to hook up my TT Sunday and be gone for a few days. He asked if I wanted to make an appointment next week for a new transmission. I am going to drive it till it busts, I have AAA. So does it sound like a computer issue or a mechanical problem? I asked the tech about the diode it being a 2001 and he said the diode is for the 2nd gear not the 3rd
If the code didn't come back, I would not worry about it, unless you start feeling something wrong. You do have the dreaded '01 trans with the Diode. I had the same thing untill I went to BTS a couple weeks ago and had Brian build my trans.
BTS sounds good but may be a little more than I could stand. My guy tells me he can rebuild mine beefed up to quote " haul the mail" and that I would not have a problem with it for 2500.00 which sounded like a deal but also sounded cheap. I don't plan on going to extreme with the X. Maybe a small tuner and will be hauling a 6500 TT.
Just thinking out loud. There are 2 sensors on the tranny. A TSS (Turbine Speed Sensor) and an OSS (Output Shaft Speed) that the PCM uses to determine the difference in the input speed and the output speed of the tranny to determine the ratio. One of the sensors could have had a glitch and the PCM didn't see the proper ratio when in third gear and set the 0733 code. If the code comes back I would replace one of those sensors. They should be interchageable so you would only need one to find out if either one is bad.
But if its going to it will do it tomorrow when I leave for vacation.
Now let's be a little more optimistic. But I know what you mean. That's how things go sometimes. But in this case I think you're good to go. Enjoy your vacation.
