I have a 93 F250 with the 7.3 A185 with 186000 miles. I have a tapping noise in the front of the engine, blue smoke when I rev or accelerate, loss of power. I have no water in the oil or oil in the water. I have not loss any oil. I have not checked compression yet. I'm thinking it's the injection pump. Any have any idea? Email me at imtdriller@yahoo.com
A little more info please. Does the noise get faster when you increase engine speed? Is the tapping coming more from one bank of cylinders? Do you uae any fuel additives?
Start and warm it up.
Crack Injector lines at the injector one at a time.
Does one (or more) change the noise???
Have you checked the Glow Plugs ... Could have a tip in the cylinders.
Blue smoke is oil ...
186k with original IP and Injectors???
Time to replace anyways and re-coupe the power and mileage.
Don't expect it to stop the tapping or blue smoke.
[edit]
Use a screwdriver as a stethoscope and see if you can pin point the location... To do this fold the flap on the front side of your ear over the ear canal with screwdriver handle, touch screwdriver tip to various places and follow the sound.

-Enjoy

Reason: Added Stethoscope info
The fact they injectors are at 1/3 of their usable life don't really mean anything, so do what Festus Hagen said and crack their line nuts loose one at a time - if injectors are all good then every time you loosen a line the idle will get worse, if one of the injectors don't change the way the truck runs or actually improves it then you've found one potential cause of the issues.
