sparkechevy 454, my 97 4.6 f150 has nearly 155,000 miles and zero "blue smoke" and no measureable oil consumption between 3,000 oil changes. The inside of the tailpipe is nearly as clean as the day i bought the truck. The 5.4L is a great engine, but from a reliability standpoint only , i prefer the 4.6 V8.
I'm not offended at all with the first thread. Everyone in entitled to an opinion.
I picked up my new 04 STX last Saturday and I love it. Setting next to any other truck, Ford has won hands down.
I agree the pictures don't give credit where credit is due. The only things I'm a little disappointed about is that the seats are a little too firm and they didn't offer the new 5.4/3 valve engine in the STX, so far that is............
I have included a photo of my new yellow truck. http://www.octm.com/dane/index61.htm
Have you seen it up close and personal or is your opinion made from looking at photo's of it.
I have, and the trucks are definately beautiful in comparison to earlier models. What a difference! I should have waited until they came out and bought one! IMO they are worth every penny that Ford is asking.
The 2004 is a piece of crap. I was waiting for it to come out because I wanted a new truck. But when I test drove it I was really disapointed. The front looks good, but the interior is too Toyota Celica-ish. The rear end is just butt-ugly(no pun intended).
I bought myself a F-250 because I just couldnt see myself driving that import-ish looking truck.
Some people will always find something to pick apart, like saying wow the ride is smooth and quiet but I looked up the specs and this thing weighs 500lbs more, ok so now you know the price of the ride. No free lunch.
More power is always good but lets face it who buys a standard pickup truck to go racing...seriously. But if that's what you want Ford does build the Lightning so they've got that covered too.
I've said before I think some of the technology is over done but that's the way things are now days.
Looking back through the years at the styling of Ford trucks all were right for the era in which they were designed and built, that's what made them market leaders.
I remember when the new 1980 trucks came out and automotive journalist said the styling was boring, it was still too big, (remember this is before the Ranger) and used too much gas (back then it was a known fact the planet would be out of oil by the year 2000) they didn't like it much and thought Ford could have done much better. Well that generation of trucks started Fords best selling vehicle in the country sales record, and that championship continued through the 1997 redesign.
towboat,
Man that's a mouthful and I could not have said it better myself. It's been 19 years since I've bought a new truck which was a 1985 F150 XLT Lariat.
Even though my new '85 F150 with a 351 4V H.O. was a really good truck and had plenty of getup and go, my new '04 was only $5,000.00 more and a much better built truck.
The 4.6 isn't the powerhouse my '85 was but will get the job done just fine.
I really love the new styling package.
My last two trucks have been chevy. I never really liked the 1997 to 2003 . But now I'm going to get a 2004 F-150 FX Screw. I saw and drove one and how anyone can say they look cheap and ugly
blows me away. I think Ford did a great job .
I love my 76 bronco i've had it for about 15 years now and still think its the coolest SUV around . I also had a 1969 mach 1 and love it to. So please dont say O thats coming from a chevy guy.
