Camber bushing woes

As I've said in a couple other recent posts, I am doing a bunch of front end work (ball joints, axle joints, wheel bearings, etc..). I'm to the point where I am installing the knuckles and I've ran into a problem. I put the knuckle it its place and start the nut onto the lower ball joint a little bit. Then I put the camber bushing in over the upper ball joint stud and at this point it will drop all the way down and the tabs sit flat down on the metal. Next I torque the bottom ball joint nut to 40llbs and then put the castle nut onto the upper ball joint. At this point the camber bushing has pushed up and I can't get it back down to sit flush again. If I tighten the castle nut the bushing still won't go down. I've tried slowily tightening the castle nut as I tighten the nut on the lower ball joint and it still won't stay down. The tabs are far enough down that they catch the two tabs that are there so they won't turn, but just won't sit flush. What am I doing wrong? Are they not supposed to sit flush?

Thanks

I had a similar issue when I did mine. I found that it was because the ball joint stud wasn't straight to the bushing ID. I wiggled the knuckle around some until the stud was lined up, and had no issues. The bushing should sit flat against the knuckle.

have you tried putting a large deepwell socket on top of the camber bushing and trying to tap it down with a hammer. it might take a little coaxing.

I'll have to try wiggling around the stud for the top ball joint, but I'm not sure that will help much. The passenger isn't too far from flush and I have tried tapping it back down with a pickle fork and a 5lb hammer, along with other assorted sockets, and tools. On the driver side the tabs on the bushing and the two tabs on the knuckle are barely engaging each other.

On the drivers side, if I have the knuckle just laying on the bench and just slip the bushing over the top of the upper ball joint it slides on until it is about 4 threads past the cotter pin hole and when I put the knuckle and try to tighten everything down it will go down that same amount and not any farther.

On a side note, does anyone have any ideas on how to pop the needle bearings out of the inside of the spindles?
