Candy Red paint imperfection

The new truck is at the dealership (woohoo) but it has a slight issue with the passenger side rear door.
There is a small raised area where it looks like something got under the paint during the paint process. This has left a small raised area (approx 1-2mm wide and maybe 0.5mm raised).

The dealership have said about buffing it down level but I'm concerned about going through the top coat - especially with the candy red paint.

Any thoughts?

If you are buying this truck after they do the work, make sure that their correction of the paint issue will be covered under warrenty. And I believe Fords paint and corrosion warrenty is 5yr/ 60k, isnt it?

Also, I don't know about on the trucks, but on the Mustangs you pay extra for this color paint, as it has some other type of top coat. Make sure that is considered.

my truck had a similar issue as they removed a decal. They actually repainted the whole truck and gave me a new lifetime paint warranty because removing the decal was part of the deal. My guess is it's going to be close to the same thing with yours.

If that raised spot is under the clear coat and the base paint, the only way they can "buff" it out is to redo the paint on that particular panel (i do believe). I think the biggest concern with this would be paint match. 1) Making sure the new paint is the exact match as the original and 2) if the truck's been sitting on the lot the older paint may be faded and not match the new.

These are just some thoughts for your situation but you should be able to work a deal because it's a new truck. I was worried about mine, but got entire new paint job and gave me a lifetime paint warranty

The 5 year paint warranty is for Rust Through perforations, which is crap. It takes a lot of rust to break through the sheet metal.

I would not accept the truck. If they repaint the door, it won't be a perfect color match. Sanding it will not fix the problem. The containment more than likely is in the base coat. Tell them you will wait for another truck with a good paint job.

Buffing will not correct the issue, The paint can be matched exact especially being new but the door must be taken down to metal.

Unless you plan to lease or own for like 3 years then pedal it, refuse the truck and order another one.

Is the paint a metallic? If so, even with the best painters, it will be visible to some that it has been painted. Metallics are tricky enough as it is when painting a whole car let alone trying it to match an existing paint job. I am too picky and wouldn't accept this.

You bought a new truck, not a new truck with flaws. The monkey is on their back to make it right.

Personally, I would not accept the truck. But in regards to paint matching, the "newer" laytex BB/CC paints have such minimal amounts of metallic (as compared to real- candy metallic paints of the past), exact color matching is really not an issue with oem colors/paints. Color matching is even taken into consideration when formulating the paints so that "repairs" can be completed by a "good", trained painter.

One of my own vehicles (97 black Cougar) recieved a heavy scratch down to metal by a buckle (passerby accident)....even though the paint is in excellent condition, original it of course has some fade. Using a lazor, and standard color matching spray application, the paint matched perfect to the eye! not even my neighbors who are car nuts knew the damage had occurred.

Don't accept the truck. Their options are to repaint the truck fully, provide a lifetime warranty (through Ford - get all of this in writing on letterhead), and make it meet your approval, or order a new truck.

Good luck. I don't have much too offer, but I think the paint quality on my 09 is not what it should be. There are a few places where there is a grain of dust/dirt in the clear coat. overall, the paint is pretty thin.

Most if not all of the factory paint leaves a lot to be desired. My buddy sprayed a black Mustang GT type stripe on the hood of my 08. He did such a great job blocking/sanding/clearing the original oxford white that I'm going to have to have him do the rest of the sheet metal because there's such a difference in the finish quality. Did seem to notice there's plenty of base coat on the truck though.

The paint of the Fords has gone downhill in the last couple of years as a whole. Did you decide what you are gonna do?

You can wetsand/polish the orange peel out of most oem paint jobs for a great improvement, but you have to know what you are doing.

I hate to say it, but you are right. I had all three of my vehicles detailed this weekend. The quality of the paint job on the new Chrysler 300C seems to be far superior to that of my Mustang and F-150.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I have clay-barred, machine polished/waxed my truck a couple of times, and it seemed to help the consistency of the finish a bit. I have spent some time aligning the body panels too - doors and tailgate were thrown together it seems.
