Well, that's the end of the old Chevy car show they sponsored that was held across the street.

When Pasadena closed, I got all the parts catalogs (60), microfiche slides (over 600!) and viewers, and a ton of other jazz.

This dealership (Fortner & Loud, then Loud Ford, then Robert Loud Ford, then several Pasadena Ford's under different owners) had been in business in the same location since the 19teens, and...

They never threw anything away!

Speaking of forward vision...

Superior Chrysler-Dodge built a huge new multi-million dollar store on Gale Avenue in the City of Industry. They musta bought all the marble that was available, cuz it was everywhere.

Chrysler-Dodge was there about six months, then Superior moved their Nissan store to this location. Chrysler-Dodge moved to the Nissan store that was down the street.

Both the Nissan and the Chrysler-Dodge stores went belly up about six months later. The building sat empty for about a year. Now, there's a Hyundai dealer there.

I took my son to that show--it was pretty small, but a good variety. He thinks it odd that we went from cars like the Nova and Camaro to the Prius... Kind of a "How did this happen?" He was bummed when the Econoline went down the road, as he enjoyed shifting it...

How did this happen? The 1973/74 & 1979 Arab Oil Embargo's had a lot to do with it. The price of oil skyrocketed.

In 1973, before the (so called) embargo, a gallon of regular gas could be bought for 20-25 cents.

After the first embargo ended, the price was a buck,. It hit a buck twenty five after the second embargo ended.

Just like in 2007 when gas went to 5 bucks a gallon, ppl back then said they would cut down on their driving. But it didn't happen back then or since.

Oh, he can understand that. He is just appalled that cars used to be unique and now many look like used bars of soap...

Lee Iacocca said it best. When he viewed the new 1986 Taurus for the first time, he said it looked like a flying potato !
