Just curious if anyone has ever cut the bumper steps out of a Chevy and then put them in a ford bumper?
I would love to do this but haven't looked too closely at the Chevy bumper or measured anything to see if they would even fit. Just an idea right now. Just thought maybe someone has had this idea and given it a shot already.
I was looking at that a year ago. I did measure a chevy bumper parked next to me at work one day and it was about 6 inches different in length (wide)... mine is a CREW so that might have some effect. I was thinking of cutting the factory bumper and installing steps, or removing the chrome and welding in new steps, etc...
In the end, I made a foldup step that goes under the left rear corner of the bed. I saw it advertised on the internet and basically designed a similar one for myself... I think the factory unit was $200. which would be cheap compared to modifying the factory bumper.
I have the Amp Research bed step...It's well worth the money to me. I'm 6'2", but with a bad knee. The step makes it so much easier to get into the bed. It's one of those "how did I ever do without this thing?" items...
I don't think the overall length of the bumper would Matter as much as the height and curvature of the side where the step is..i would think If they curve the same it would fit.
But I'm not a big fan of the retractableside steps I don't like the extra part hanging down and not a huge fan of the looks...but it would solve the problem, I'm 6'4 and my truck is lifted 6"on 35s so getting in the bed is a task
You should try one of the steps, or stand behind the truck.. lift your foot up and see where the step should go.......... the bumper is too high for the step. GOOD step needs to be 6 inches BELOW the bumper.......... test it and see.
I was also not impressed with the step when I first looked at them. Then I MEASURED to see how the bumper step would work and how the folding step would work.. The foldup is DEFINITELY a better solution. When folded up, mine sticks down about 2 inches below the corner of the bumper, but sets back a couple inches from the bumper. Really you cant see it if your not looking... and its black. Works out very well.
