Any suggestions on what to buy/use to do this? I just checked the voltage and it goes down to 25.8 after the truck starts. I am going to try this, but I think it's time for a new soldering iron. I have looked at videos on YouTube, but all of them show using an oven to reflow the solder. Time to search some more for some good advice. I will let y'all know how I make out.
Well I finally finished about 10:30 tonight. My soldering skills still stink, but after the 45 minutes it took me to plug the FICM back in (that plug closest the the firewall is a PITA) the truck is fixed. I had 46 to 48 volts through the whole testing, including idle. I can't believe that a little flux and solder is all that was needed to fix a $700 part.
The only thing that bothered me is that I now have a long crank before she starts, but if it stays running good, I won't complain. Thanks to everyone who helped and thanks to this forum I don't know where I would be without it.
Did you re-test your voltages after the repair? If so, what did you get?
Yes 46 to 48 all the way through, key on buzz, buzz off, crank, and idle were all good voltage.
Before the repair the only low one was idle and that was around 25.
noj70....nice fix. Now that 20 bucks of those savings and do yourself another favor...get rid of all those annoying ads you see on here and join FTE as a SUPPORTER!!
If you look at my new signature below you might understand why I can't become a supporter at the present time, but I will look into it.
Thanks again everyone.
