I sure hope the people that ordered trucks, gets their truck by then. It might not be a happy time for Chris.

Awesome! I hope the group is civil and well-behaved. Looking forward to hearing some detail on the delay and changes they've made to the trucks during the Job 1 build.

It would be awesome if the designers/engineers that work at Ford would join this site and be able to see the feedback directly from the customer.

whats bizarre to me is how none of these super duty trucks or even the f150 come with a manual transmission. every single one of them has an automatic.

Ford did away with the manual transmission option in 2011. Apparently just not enough demand (something like 1 - 3%?). In the 6R100 they offer a manual mode which allows the driver to use a +/- control on the shifter to go through the gears manually. GM also has no manual transmission option in 2011. Only Dodge will offer that.

One of the Ford gentleman mentioned that the take rate was just too low to justify a business case for it. The fact that GM was dropping their manual trans was the proverbial nail in the coffin.

I think its disappointing - I can't foresee myself ever owning an automatic truck (for practical and personal preference reasons), but I can understand the move, I haven't seen another manual trans SD in SoCal outside of mine.

I am not going to make it to the chat.

Will someone raise this issue with Ford?

Honda developed a exhaust treatment system that do not require Diesel Exhaust Fluid to be added.

Here are the details:

Reaction Mechanism of the New NOx Catalytic Converter for Diesel Engines

1: During lean burn operation, the NOx adsorbent in the lower layer adsorbs NOx from the exhaust gas.

2: As needed, the engine management system adjusts the engine air-fuel ratio to rich-burn, wherein the NOx in the NOx adsorption layer reacts with hydrogen (H2) obtained from the exhaust gas to produce ammonia (NH3). The adsorbent material in the upper layer temporarily adsorbs the NH3.

3: When the engine returns to lean-burn operation, NH3 adsorbed in the upper layer reacts with NOx in the exhaust gas and reduces it to harmless nitrogen (N2).

The system is elegant, and nearly maintenance free.

Why not license the system from Honda?

Where can I get power+torque curves for Ford V10 6.8L gas engines and Ford V8 5.4L gas engine?

This sounds remarkably similar to the system Dodge uses on it's trucks. Called a NOx adsorber or Lean NOx Trap(LNT).

The downside, as I understand it, is that like a DPF, this technology has to be regenerated in a similar manner. Meaning that the engine cycles between running lean and rich all the time based on a sensor, which requires wasting lots of fuel!

As far as I can tell the system, when used on the CTD, is less efficient than the current generation 6.4L PSD. SCR allows them to tune the engine to use less EGR and a more efficient combustion cycle while still meeting NOx standards.

LNT technology may be easier to use, but it doesn't deliver one of the biggest expectations customers have for these new trucks: fuel economy!
