I have a 351M (stock) breathing down a 2.5" Y-pipe into a Thrush turbo SI/SO muffler. Where should I go from there? Straight back? Dump in front of the rear wheel?
And should I maintain the 2.5" or reduce slightly to 2.25?
Mine's a 460 with headers into 2.5" dual pipes to flow masters straight back to the back of the truck with 2.5" pipes all the way. I personally like the look of them coming out the back and the sound of both of them when your behind it is nice. If you were to dump out in front of the rear wheels you'll only hear one bank at a time depending on what side of the truck your on. Well, not you because you'll be driving but any one out side of the truck will hear it. Here's a pic of mine out the back. -Ed
Just re-read your post and relized that you are running a single exhaust. So, I guess it's up to you where you dump it out at. I still like it out the back though, helps keep any exhaust fumes out of the cab too. -Ed
I have the same configuration, a y pipe to a SI and SO muffler, I took mine up and over the rear axle and the turned it out behind the passenger side rear tire so the exhaust exits out the side of the truck and not the back. I use my truck to tow trailers haul cars etc etc, and I have to leave the engine running while using my trailors winch so I didnt want exhaust in my face while hitching un hitching and loading cars/trailors
Just another thought in favor of the rear exit exhaust. If you are fortunate enough to be able to store your truck in the garage, then the rear exhaust will not fill the garage with fumes as bad as MY 2 pipes out in front of the right rear tire.
