69cj,

Thanks, I take your thinking alike statement as a compliment. I am not a fervent egr cooler delete guy. Mine was deleted with the FCD kit on my original engine and I reused it on the new engine. I had it and it was real cold when we did the work and I just wanted to get the job done. I know a lot more now and would do the job different now. I would do a sneaky delete or replace the cooler with a Bulletproof Diesel design. Like you and Bismic, I am convinced the egr problems can be eliminated with the knowledge we have now. But I do not care if someone else deletes their EGR cooler.

Regards

I wish more people thought like that. I keep on expounding the "gospel" when it comes to that, but people just have it in their minds that it has to be deleted and it doesn't on a stock truck.

I am keeping my '05 F350 as stock as possible. I have wondered on the delete also, but haven't done it because I didn't want to have any sort of emissions issues later on. Would I be better to simply do the Bulletproof upgrade?

I haven't been active on the site for a good period of time, but given the miles(145k+) I am thinking I need to really get these preventative items done to help prolong my trucks life.

As I see it now, the following list is a must have for all 6.0s. Is this correct, or anything I missed?

EGR Upgrade(or delete/bypass)
Oil Cooler?
Cooler Filter

Are there other things STOCK owners should really have done as well? I don't personally plan to have a tuner or do performance increase mods. I don't want to race my truck. Just want it reliable as a daily driver and useable for towing a few times a year.

Tex,

I was discussing this and other issues with another member here on the phone. I truly believe we have turned the corner with the 6.0 issues. We know what causes the issues and how to get around them. Are issues still going to come up? Of course, it is a very complicated engine with sophisticated electronics and leading edge technology for its time. It has become clear that many of the issues have become exaggerated by the lack of early knowledge and, still to this day, poor techs at some dealerships. I also believe the techs that insult 6.0 owners with nonsensical statements like "you are sure going to regret not buying a 7.3 when your warranty expires" should be terminated. This has gotten completely out of control. I sure appreciate your solid contributions to this forum and look forward to learning even more from your wisdom. You have certainly paid for your education, as have I.

Regards

Once my warranty is up I will probably do a CCV mod with separator. I personally don't want that crap on my truck or in the air. The reasoning for the egr is sound just not the application. You will have to do maint. on the seperator now and then but nothing is free. I will do it in a way that I can return to stock form in about 15 min. I will still be keeping the crap out of the air but also out of my intake.

OH, and Cheezit, thanks for the compliment.

My 5 reasons to say so long to the EGR(engineerings greatest reck) cooler:

1. My oil cooler is done, dead and done, my guess is it's pretty much sealed off, which means there is very little coolant going to the EGR cooler, i know this bacause while testing the HG's and oil cooler we noticed some puking around the cap(my truck has never puked before, i've always checked ever time i opened the hood), so instead of replacing the damning mess i'd rather delete it and never worry about it again.

2. Maintenace, it may take an hour and it's not to often, cleaning the EGR valve is something i could do without, plus getting the little p.o.s out can be a job in itself.

3. A new EGR cooler and valve will run me 300-400 bucks, i can buy a Sinister EGR delete for 300, save money and keep problem parts away from my motor

4. I live in Florida, the sunshine state and here theres no emission laws.

5. I really want to burn my EGR cooler and valve, along with the oil cooler, i'm not joking either, when my truck is fixed and the new parts are in and the old are out, im grilling my EGR.

All the other reasons, while I may or may not agree with them are highly individualized, so I'm not going to go into those.

As to #4, that's not really true. Florida may or may not have state or county laws written for Florida specifically, but Florida does have Federal laws and there are Federal emission laws. I know of one specifically that will affect you and that is it is unlawful to remove and/or make inoperable any emissions related equipment that came on the vehicle from the factory. So Florida does in a sense have atleast one emissions law that would affect you.

Now, rather or not you get caught, that's another matter, but don't confuse that with not having emission laws to adhere to.

We didn't have them until this year either. What usually starts in Ca. emissions wise usually goes coast to coast. Just a matter of time. If you and your parents sink a bunch of money into your truck and then next year emissions requirements pop up, what is your plan then? Just trying to get you to consider all the scenarios. I have seen them change sometimes on an almost daily basis. My rash decisions in the past have cost me money. Are you or your folks prepared for that?

You can sneaky delete the egr cooler and no one can visually tell it is disabled. The cost is dependent on who you know who can do a little welding for you. I kept all the stock parts from the new engine just in case the emissions inspections come to my neighborhood. That will be my solution

That's what I did. I'm exempt here due to weight, but diesels in of themselves aren't exempt here. Just weight. Some of the people here do know what to look for though, I asked a couple of them about what they look for and they were better prepared then I thought they would be.
