Ok, as many of you have helped me previously, you know that my oil cooler is toast, well i know that the oil cooler and EGR cooler work hand-in-hand, and with my oil running at temps 80 degrees hotter than it should, im game to delete my EGR while im in there, as of now i want to put a dieselsite coolant filter on, sinister EGR delete and of course an OEM oil cooler.
Problem is..... Im 16, and my dad is gonna have to foot the bill on this one, i plan to personally buy the coolant filter with the last of my cash, but my dad will have to pay for everything else.
I just want my mom and dad to understand how the oil cooler/EGR cooler system works, they arent the most the mechanicaly inclined so if anyone is willing to explain why I need to replace the oil cooler, and why its a good idea to delete the EGR and add a coolant filter to prevent future problems.
I've tried to explain as best as could, but even I dont completely understand everything, and my parents like as many opinions as possible, Thanks FTE, you guys always help

I feel for you and respect the mature attitude you are showing here in this forum. I would love to help by offering you a complete write up of how it all works and how so related they really are. But Have the same problem as you in putting my knowledge and thoughts to words. All I can offer to you is, don't give up. Hopefully someone with a some knowledge and writing skills can help you out.
Here's Rep for your efforts.

Thanks, one of the techs will chime in sooner or later, probably still at work, as far as attitude im mad because my truck is down and i cant drive it, but things dont work forever. Still love the 6.0.
I will give you my understanding of it and you may not agree with some of my reasoning however;
The coolant in your engine goes thru the oil cooler 1st and then thru the egr cooler. The water passages in the oil cooler are small and they easily plug up with casting sand, nitrate fallout and other debris. When the oil cooler starts plugging it restricts the coolant to the egr cooler thus over heating it and causing puking and at times the solder seals to acually burst then possibly causing a hydrolock condition which could destroy the engine. I am a firm believer that if you replace the oil cooler and egr cooler, thoroughly clean the cooling system and install a coolant filter that the entire system can be made reliable. As for the egr valve, the ccv reroute with filter will help that. I don't know where the ccv reroute stands, legal wise, if you ever had to have your truck smogged. To me if you route it thru a seperation filter and then back to the crankcase you are meeting the intent of the emisssions law. However I am not a smog referee. Hope this helps and I am sure you will here other ops. on the delete option.

Lakewood,
Here is as simple as I can explain it:
The water pump circulates the coolant through the entire engine and the coolant heat exchangers(radiators). In it's travels it flows through the engine block and then some of the coolant flows into the oil cooler. The oil cooler is a liquid to liquid heat exchanger. Oil in one side and coolant on the other. The coolant side has many very small passages that the coolant must flow through. Without a coolant filter to help out, the coolant side of the oil cooler becomes clogged with this sand. This restricts the rate of flow through the cooler. The next heat exchanger down stream of the oil cooler is the egr cooler. The egr cooler is there to lower the exhaust gas temperature to a usable temperature before it passes through the egr valve and into the intake system. The egr cooler receives exhaust gasses in excess of 1000 degrees F. When the coolant flow through the oil cooler becomes restricted, the egr cooler does not receive enough coolant flow for its needs. The egr cooler overheats due to this lack of flow. It does not take long for 1000 degree temps to boil the coolant. Coolant boils, turns to steam, coolant system pressures rise dramatically and because it has to go somewhere it vents out the overflow/degas bottle. This is the legendary puking issue we all love so much. The bottom line is this. Almost all egr cooler failures are the result of a clogged oil cooler. If the oil cooler is not replaced, either the new egr cooler or the oil cooler will rupture. YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE A RUPTURED OIL COOLER. BTDT, what an expensive mess.
To Mom and Dad: What a great kid you have. He has researched the facts. He needs an oil cooler

You need one of these, just roll the date back on your computer.....Ford Repair Manual
Agreed but since I'm on the opposite coast I don't need to take a chance on the headache.
Nice write up guys for Lakewood I'm sure his parents will understand. I also purchased a repair Manual from ( eBay Seller: manual monkey: eBay Motors items on eBay.com ) He has a 99.8 positive feedback. The manual cost me 26.90 delivered. He said I will may have to backdate my pc but it works fine without back dating. Just My .02
PS: rickatic & 69cj I sent reps to you guys for the write for Lakewood For His Parents. Great Job!!!
