Big power loss

Ok I just put a wicked wheel in this weekend thanks to Nick (weekendwarriorfs32) for his help. Today I hooked up the trailer just to see if EGT's would be lower. It felt like my truck had a lot less power and was working harder to pull my 26 foot travel trailer that at most might be 6000 lbs fully loaded it is 4700 dry. The EGT's seemed to be a litter lower and all my surge is gone. What am I missing? What else can I look at? The truck runs perfect empty. I am starting to thing I might have an issue wth my trailer but it is only two years old please help this is driving me nuts. Oh and i am using the 80T tune.

What boost and EGT numbers are you seeing flat ground empty vs. towing?

I just did a run up the freeway 10 -12 miles with it unpluged and it seemed to run with less effort. Then on the freeway back I pluged the trailer back in motor was working harder high boost and rpm to maintain the same speed. Boodt numbers with the wicked wheel and adjusting the wastegate are up to 26. Starting to think maybe one of the braked is binding up. Any other suggestions? I also have this posted in the towing section.

Empty Boost & EGTs nos. seem a little high to me. I normally ran (with my stocker) in the mid-600s and 4-5 psi at 70. Could be the 315s doing it, but I'm just giving you a point of reference...

I would give a hard look at all the intake and exhaust connections to make sure there are no boost leaks.

I know the WW supposedly pushes less air, could this be the difference you are noticing? In my case, no WW, my truck runs fine unloaded, can see about 25psi of boost easy. It's a whole different animal when I hook up the trailer though, it seems harder to make the boost and when it does I get surge (which is why I am looking at the WW or ported housing). Your numbers at cruise sound similar to mine.

When you say "hook up", you mean "attach the trailer to the hitch and pull it", or "connect the electrical connector"?

In Post #4 above it seems to indicate you mean the towing the trailer with the electrical connector connected versus disconnected.

That sounds like trailer brakes are a problem. Are they getting hot?

I have a wicked wheel and noticed no difference in power when pulling or unloaded. Now, I did my WW after I already had 315's so I can't compare it to what it was with the 305's but all I noticed it did was cure my surge issue.

It sounds to me like a brake is hanging up on the trailer based on the fact that Reny stated that with the trailer not hooked up electrically, his truck ran fine. On one of my horse trailers, when I first got it, one of the electrical connections came loose and the default setting on the brakes was to lock up. I guess it's a 'safety" feature. I bet that is what is going on.

Not so much typing, as timing. Fast typing I cannot...

Good catch guys, I was reading it the wrong way I think. I need to try this as it often feels like my trailer is pulling my back, too. Of course, it weighs 14,000lbs, so that could be the problem

Rob, I think that the 14K and the fact that those things are aerodynamically not much better than a brick, might have something to do with it.

Yeah, I agree Jason. But, on a recent trip to Florida, the trailer felt significantly heavier on the way back than it did on the way down, and we didn't buy that much stuff. On a subsequent trip to Florida a few weeks later, the trailer still felt heavier than normal. I have also noticed the RV axles are leaking a decent amount of grease. Probably something I need to have checked out????
