See, they always use cars & trucks that would appeal to "blue collar" buyers, I always see lifted trucks, LARGE SUV's haha the Ex, and good old American Muscle cars. The theory is that the blue collar worker will not understand technology & therefore not see the red flags. What they don't know is that our "blue collar" citizens built this country and are smarter than the con artists think.

Maybe getting a bit off of ford stories but here is one. I love when they try to fit in BIG words.

Your Urgent Attin,

I am the Director and Funds Co-coordinator of the finance/Contract Department of The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Terms of Reference. My term of reference involves the financial management and disbursement of proceeds from petroleum products and also the award of contracts to multinational companies.
My office is also saddled with responsibility of screening, categorization and Prioritization of projects embarked upon by this Ministry as well as feasibility study for selected projects and supervising the project consultants involved.A breakdown of the fiscal expenditure by this office as at the end of the fourth Fiscal quarter of 2008 indicates that this Ministry paid out a wooping sum of US$4 Billion (Four Billion Dollars) to successful contract beneficiaries. The Ministry is now compiling beneficiaries to be paid in this Second and Third quarter fiscal year

The crux of this letter is that the finance/contract department of this Ministry deliberately over-inflated the contract value of the various contracts awarded. In the Cause of disbursements, this department has been able to track down the sum of US$10.5M (Ten Million Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) as the over-invoiced sum. This money is now lying and floating in the Ministry's domiciliary account with the Apex Bank, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
My colleagues and I now want to quickly transfer these funds to a safe nominated account for possible investment abroad. We are not allowed as a matter of Government policy to operate any foreign account because of our status as Civil/public servants.

Hence the need to solicit for your account to transfer this fund into.
We have also evolved a sharing formula as follows:
(1) 30% for the foreign account owner
(2) 65% for my colleagues and I
(3) 5% mapped out for any expenses that might occur in the cause of the transaction.

Furthermore, we shall be relying on your advice as regards investments of part of our share in any blue-chip Company in your country. Be informed that this business is genuinely and 100% safe considering the high-powered government official involved.
Send your private fax, telephone numbers and your mobile telephone if any this is to facilitate easy communication with you. Looking forward to healthy business relationship with you. Also send to me you private email address, the name and address of your company which you will want to us to use for this transaction so that we can register it here in Nigeria with the cooperate affairs commission as a category "A" contractor.

Finally all our further correspondents should be on email and phone calls to ensure a hitch free transaction because a transaction of this magnitude is a top secret, so you are advised to call me Mobile Tel: +234-80-71824005 immediately you receive this letter and also reply to my private/confidential.

The F150 was funny, you have to read from the bottom up. I led this guy on for weeks, until I was happy that I wasted all of his time. By that time I was able to get the truck off of Auto Trader and CraigsList.

PS, Im Dennis, I used a fake address

Hi ,

I'm a flight attendant at American Airlines and because I'm away most of the time I will not be able to deal in person. I had pre-arranged the deal with eBay so my presence is not necessary , the car is in their possession ready to be delivered. eBay will handle this transaction for me. The car is insured in case of damage and it takes 4-5 days to be delivered at your door. It will come with all the necessary paperwork (clear title, bill of sale, user's manual, insurance etc). You will receive all the original documents and keys with the car. I signed all the paperwork and the clear title is ready to be transferred to the new owner.

Please get back to me with your full name, full address so i can forward your details to eBay in order for you to receive the invoice regarding the terms and conditions of this transaction.

Thank you,

Hi again ,

Here is the VIN# 1FTRW08L13KB72129. The truck is located in Birmingham, AL , we will use eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection, so we can both be protected and insured. I just need your full name and full address so eBay can send you the invoice in which you'll see how to make this transaction. I supposed to ship the truck to another buyer, then he told me that he found another vehicle so is no longer interested. He already paid the shipping charges, the shipping is paid I will send the truck with all the papers ( vehicle registration, warranty papers, transfer papers etc ) I am just waiting your full name and address to complete the shipping papers and start the delivery process.

Hello is the truck still available??
My brother-in-law & sister-in-law contacted you about the 2003 F-150 in the Auto Trader.
When can it be seen? & Do you have a contact number where we can reach you? We are very interested in the truck so please contact Jason *** as soon as possible.
It has been removed from Auto Trader for some reason, can you clarify?

This is the invoice that I was sent by the con, and it looks very real to me.
It is supposedly coming from Ebay Motors, and is very convincing. I checked the recipients address in Miami Florida, it is a new construction house that is for sale but is vacant at the moment.

Here's the kicker, this truck was actually being sold at the same time on Ebay for $16,000.00 by the real owner. The con's do this so in case you Google the VIN, you will see the truck for sale. I did notify Ebay & the owner about this scam. If you Google the VIN, you'll see this truck is being sold everywhere from the US to Europe to France.
I found a bogus MoneyGram receipt on the internet, printed it out and filled in my fake information, I faxed it to them and sent them on a wild goose chase for days! They were stopping at every MoneyGram trying to pick up their cash & it was never there!!!

This is the REAL Ebay action for this truck, you can see how anyone would jump on the opportunity to own this truck for $4600.00 its beautiful, and the scams always are under $5000.00 to avoid federal prosecution.

Find Ford : F-150 on eBay International Market, with worldwide deals on items in all your top categories
Guys, please educate your friends & families that this is going on, they are exploiting America and they know most people today cant afford a new car so these scams are running ramped all over the place, and like dadsexcursion said, "If its sounds too good to be true, It probably is"

The same is true when selling a vehicle. I worked at a dealership several years ago and ran the internet sales. I have several vehicles on ebay most of the time. About once a week I would get an email with english that wasn't quite right saying that they would be calling soon and were interested in my car. I would get the call. It was from the deaf relay service. They were all the same. They wanted to send me the full price and then some for my vehicle and have me send the balance back to them. The balance was always about $3,000 - $4,000. I even got a certified bank check from a real bank in FL made out to my name personally for $30,000 once. I just laughed. I took it to the general manager and we called that bank. It was fake.

Hi,
As I've previously told you, I'm currently involved in a military program, temporarily based in TX, as I'll be changing it for Afghanistan very soon. Due to military security reasons I'm restricted from leaving the unit's facility under any purpose and have strictly limited phone access. The shipping won't be a problem; military has a considerable discount, so I can handle it by myself, with no charges whatsoever on your account. The car will be sent along with all its documents including title, bill of sale, 2 sets of keys, full service records and everything else you'll need. Because it's such a large transaction, I'd suggest using an authorized third party, as Google Checkout for instance. I've done some research and that's the safest way to do it. That's why, I've taken the liberty to prearrange things with them, using their escrow Google Checkout. I thought you might want to see it there, so I've asked them to allow viewers to inspect the car; but their reply was: "We are not a showroom!" No worries cause I'll grant you a 5 days inspection period (to test drive it) from the moment you receive it, before Google Checkout escrow releases your money to me. The vehicle is located in their warehouse in TX (ready for delivery).
If you are still interested just send me your full name and shipping address. I will forward your info to Google Checkout and they will further notify you about our deal. This way you'll be able to talk to them without any third party involved, and ask all you need to know.
My regards!
Mike

I guess I'm too old school, but it blows my mind that anyone would send money for a vehicle they have never seen in person let alone test driven. I guess I'm just too paranoid!

Yep, but if you think about it, it happens every day on Ebay. I bought one car on Ebay but had it inspected before it shipped to me.

3 You get a (real looking) face invoice from Ebay Motors, the invoice asks you to "MoneyGram" the money to the Ebay Motors employee, Keep in mind that this person does not exist or I should say exist anymore. The con's mostly use dead peoples names and an address of a vacant house. You MoneyGram your money & its gone forever.
I did some research into this & acted like I was sending the money, I completely wasted this guys time. Towards the end when the money never showed up I got a call from Jack Morgan from Ebay motors but the caller was from Pakistan or Afghanistan so I laughed when he said he was Jack. It turns out that there really is an employee in Ebay Motors named Jack Morgan and he is fully aware of this scam.
The problem is they use vehicles that typically "Blue Collar" people would buy IE lifted trucks, SUV's, Jeeps, Classic American Muscle cars and they gear the add to appeal to blue collar workers.
Saying that they are in the army gives them automatic creditability & unsuspecting people fall for it. Here is an example of what I am talking about, this is email communication that I had with one of these slugs.

So, he sent me this beautiful invoice and I strung him along for weeks, towards the end he called & asked where the money was so he can release the truck and I spent 4 hours telling him how much of a piece of garbadge he was & what I would love to do to him if I ever caught him. I was really going to hunt this guy down and kill him. I found out that his phone number is listed to a dead person and it is an IP phone and he was calling from Afghanistan.
Now here is the problem, there is no police for the internet! No one can and are willing to do anything, its buyer beware and NEVER send any money to anyone for a vehicle without seeing it. We live in a technical society and it is normal to log on to Ebay find an Excursion across the country, bid on it, but it and pay for it all before ever seeing the truck. These people are exploiting this flaw in technology. They know that there is an amount of money that you can steal without involving the federal government. They keep the amounts under $5000.00 so that these cases do not come on the radar of the FBI & other large organizations.
Be safe and educate yourself.
BTW this is the punks phone number: 415.670.9519 if you want to ask him how all this works give him a call, he was happy to educate me and actually asked me to work for him scamming people in the US.
Imagine that?
Just a little update, the EX scams are still going strong. Just posted in our local newspaper:

'05 EX Limited 4WD, 58k miles, 6.0, lifted, 35's, looks like Welds, etc. Options list is crazy in ad. Beautiful in pic, $14,500. if it was real I would buy it NOW. (408) 731-6366 if anyone cares. GRG56647@gmail.

Strangely, there is a beautiful '37 Ford listed in a separate ad, same phone number, different email address, and ANOTHER ad for the same '37 Ford, different phone #, but same email address as first '37 ad. WTF???
