I responded to the same ad here in Texas but I never got anyone on the phone.

I'm at a loss....why would someone from eBay Motors be placing fake ads on Craigslist? What kind of business do they intend on completing with a pissed off customer?

I just spoke with someone from Louisiana who is selling his Ex for $4,500. I spoke to him by phone. He didn't say he was with eBay Motors. I'm going to go see the truck next week.

As a side note....I replied to a cheap Ex ad last month and went and bought a sweet Ex for $5,000 with a clear, clean title and no mechanical issues (V10, 4x4, 160k miles)

Dunno............?

Here is what happens,
1 You respond to the add
2 you get an email from a soldier over seas or a divorced woman over seas who got the truck in a divorce & she wants to unload it. They then tell you that they are going to use Ebay as a intermediary and that the truck will be shipped to you,
3 You get a (real looking) face invoice from Ebay Motors, the invoice asks you to "MoneyGram" the money to the Ebay Motors employee, Keep in mind that this person does not exist or I should say exist anymore. The con's mostly use dead peoples names and an address of a vacant house. You MoneyGram your money & its gone forever.
I did some research into this & acted like I was sending the money, I completely wasted this guys time. Towards the end when the money never showed up I got a call from Jack Morgan from Ebay motors but the caller was from Pakistan or Afghanistan so I laughed when he said he was Jack. It turns out that there really is an employee in Ebay Motors named Jack Morgan and he is fully aware of this scam.
The problem is they use vehicles that typically "Blue Collar" people would buy IE lifted trucks, SUV's, Jeeps, Classic American Muscle cars and they gear the add to appeal to blue collar workers.
Saying that they are in the army gives them automatic creditability & unsuspecting people fall for it. Here is an example of what I am talking about, this is email communication that I had with one of these slugs.
<style><!-- .hmmessage P { margin:0px; padding:0px } body.hmmessage { font-size: 10pt; font-family:Verdana } --></style>Right now I`m in a military base. we are getting ready for Afghanistan. I don`t have my cell with me. We`ll have to stick to email for now as this is the only way I can communicate. The shipping can't be a problem because I can do it at no cost for you. You will receive the suv along with all the documents including title, bill of sale, full service records and more .Because it is a large transaction we will complete the deal only using an authorized third party like eBay, using their Business Purchase Protection Program. The payment will be handling by eBay and you will benefit of 5 inspection time period (test drive) and the option to accept or reject the suv on my expense. If you are still interested just send me your full name and shipping address. I will forward your info and they will notify you about our deal.

Hi,
I am selling this Excursion because my platoon has been sent back to Afganistan and don't want it get old in my backyard. The price is low because I need to sell it before Feb.19. It has no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident..I do have the title , clear, under my name.Vin #1FMSU43P85ED02820.The Suv has 59,100 original miles.
It is still available for sale if interested, price as stated in the ad $4,900 . The suv is in Billings , MT , in case it gets sold I will take care of shipping. Let me know if you are interested, email back.
Regards!!!

So, he sent me this beautiful invoice and I strung him along for weeks, towards the end he called & asked where the money was so he can release the truck and I spent 4 hours telling him how much of a piece of garbadge he was & what I would love to do to him if I ever caught him. I was really going to hunt this guy down and kill him. I found out that his phone number is listed to a dead person and it is an IP phone and he was calling from Afghanistan.
Now here is the problem, there is no police for the internet! No one can and are willing to do anything, its buyer beware and NEVER send any money to anyone for a vehicle without seeing it. We live in a technical society and it is normal to log on to Ebay find an Excursion across the country, bid on it, but it and pay for it all before ever seeing the truck. These people are exploiting this flaw in technology. They know that there is an amount of money that you can steal without involving the federal government. They keep the amounts under $5000.00 so that these cases do not come on the radar of the FBI & other large organizations.
Be safe and educate yourself.
BTW this is the punks phone number: 415.670.9519 if you want to ask him how all this works give him a call, he was happy to educate me and actually asked me to work for him scamming people in the US.
Imagine that?

One thing I noticed in these scams is the incorrect use of the english language. Most of the time they will use the wrong tense. I have seen these scams advertising dogs for adoption as well.

I ran across this about four years ago, a guy(supposedly) in Florida had a 69 Shelby for $4500. The pics showed a verry nice 69 Shelby Mustang. Every time I called I got to talk to the guy but all he said was if I were interested to send him the money and he'd ship the car. I went along like this for two weeks and he called and asked where the money was, I told him I was driving down to Fla to pay him and pick up the car personally (Which I was not). He hung up on me and shortly after the number ended up being disconnected! What as looser!

x2 for outlaw. And its not just limited to vehicles. A couch, jewelry, tools ....whatever commodity or merchandise, all fair game to the internet scammers. We even had douchebags here in the Chicago area selling vacant homes they did not own.
