I arrived at the dealer's a few minues ago for a routine transmission fluid and filter change. When I got out of the truck(F350 6.0 diesel) I could smell brake lining and sure enoough the rim on the passenger rear was quite warm, if not hot. i think the caliper must be dragging. there was no pulling to one side but is this a routine occurance with this truck? I haven't had a bad caliper since the early eighties.
Incident rate seems to be about the same as any other vehicle.
Was it the caliper dragging, or the parking brake?
As with any vehicle, PM is secret to avoiding problems.
- Flush brake fluid every 2 years to prevent corrosion in caliper
- Clean/regrease slide pins and parking brake linkages every 5 years. Much more frequently if driven in very wet conditions, or where roads are salted.

Annual / biannual is the frequency needed in high road salt / corrosion places.
It's typically the slide pins. I have had 3 out of 4 calipers replaced on my 06 under warranty. If their not frozen then clean them well and apply the high temp teflon grease.
