While replacing the shocks on my truck. I noticed that one bump stop was completely gone. The other appears to be on it's last leg. Is this an item that most get from the stealership or aftermarket? If aftermaket which brand is preferred?
Maybe I'm calling it the wrong name. What I'm talking about has bolts on each side and is attached to the frame. I saw no springs anywhere near it. I guess I'll have to take a picture.
You are talking about the bump stop. It does bolt to the frame and hits the top of the spring perch when you bottom out the front suspension. That is what chews them up, and with very limited suspension travel in the front (stock) it is easy to do.
Aero993 those are bump stops and usually they will crumble away once you crack them by bottoming out your 7.3 x. You can get aftermarket or go to stealership to get new ones. But as X-hIBITION said is it spring time. Are the soriginal springs on your truck still? If so i am going to say you are in need of new springs definately. YOu also might want to consider an upgrade on the springs that will allow slightly more travel so you are not bottoming out. I am not saying to jack her all the way up but get some additional clearance as that 7.3 motor is heavy as stated previously,.
