After driving the truck on two trips this month both over an hour the BATT charge light comes on and flickers on and off for about an 15 minutes then goes off.
Distance of both trips 200 miles.
Only happens after driving for an hour or more.
Does not occur on short trips under an hour.
Bumps and stopping does not change it but hard acceleration in overdrive will cause it to go out only to come back a few minutes later after cruising.
When I stop and start the engine light stays on unless I stop for 15 plus minutes.
Of course the light goes out when I took the truck to another mechanic and could not replicate the conditions for the BATT light to come on.
Charging volts (gauge) are slightly to the plus side and don't change with light on or off.
What amps are a stock alternator 130 or 200 ... BUT alternator has less than 30,000 miles?
Sometimes the wire connector on top of the alternator can come loose enough without disconnecting to give erratic charging signals. Make sure this connector is fully seated on the alternator.
Not sure what your stock alternator rating is, but I'm finding information on 95-amp, 130-amp, and 215-amp models. Hope this helps some.

Will it matter if I go with the any size amperage or will it cause a problem?
Sorry, been busy working on my truck. She's better now.
Anyway...the stock alternator for the 7.3l Powerstroke is the 130 amp model.
The 95 amp is for the gas engines and the 215 amp is for the ambulance models.
Changing the alternator usually requires changine brackets, too. Unless you're running a LOT of lights and/or an electric winch, the 130 amp alt should be fine.
