So, I was working on changing a tire on my 7.3, had somebody move my truck forward for me, turns out they didn't realize it had the "wait to start" light and went straight past it and just cranked it up, turned it off after moving it, and now it won't even turn over...you just get a click. Let it roll a little bit and popped the clutch, starts up fine, but it will not start with the key anymore. I had a suspicion that my starter was going out anyway...is it a coincidence that it went out right when it did, or did skipping the WTS light screw something up?
Coincidence.... I don't wait to start after the temp gets up around 50, or if the truck is warm. Lots of people put a switch on the gp system to disable it during the summer months, as the gp's stay on a lot longer than you think.

Ah...thanks, that's reassuring. I was worried something got fried. I'd been told if the truck is warm you shouldn't have to wait, but I've never not waited, just didn't wanna screw something up.
So other than starter, whats likely? When you turn the key to start you just get a clicking sound now...not the batteries, well...as far as I know, both of them are about a week old.
im gonna go with a coincidence. mine did the same thing last week. quick trip to the parts store for a starter and all was fixed.
Sweet, I'm hoping that's what it is. A couple days ago I got the starter to just spin but not engage when it was real cold out, hasn't done that lately...until today when I started getting a click only.
Play with the CPP (clutch pedal position) switch also. When you turn to start, does it click or anything or just make no noise at all? Hold it to start and pump the clutch a bit and see if the starter wakes up.
Just for giggles, when you are pricing a starter, check at your local International place, if you can. I had a Ford starter last about a year, I have had the Intl starter on there for the last 5 years. It was, if I remember correct, about half the price of the Ford starter, and much smaller body size as well. Of course, that was 5 years ago...
