The most notable difference is the axle shafts. Don't know what shaft is what year axle though. You'll find three different types of shafts in the front axles. The early Bendix, the later Rezepa, and the newest and most common Spicer. The Bendix- and Rezepa-style shafts are made of cast metal and are very brittle; they'll shatter rather than twist. The Spicer style is made of machined and heat-treated steel that will twist to some degree just like modern Dana 44 and Dana 60 shafts. You can put Spicer shafts in the earlier housings by swapping the thick inner seal retainer of the earlier axles to a thinner Spicer style seal retainer. Also, the earliest axles aren't the desirable toploading.
I'm looking at the other 6x6 hopefully on Thursday.
Learn to read or shut up.
That would be TODAY. I'm trying to get information on this thing so deal with it. I'm going to look at it at 5:45 today. If I want it, i'll haul it home this weekend.
Okkkkkay DON?
And as I said, another guy wants some parts off it. So I may be in luck.
I went and looked at it today... I don't think its a military 6x6.
Well honestly I don't know what it is.. it doesn't look like any M35 i've seen.
However, 6 lug axles. They look like rockwells to me.
But; the rear axle's tag said "DETROIT" on it. I don't know if that means its not a rockwell or what? Lol. Also noticed, the rear-most axle is missing the gears completely. (The axle that has the detroit tag.) The shafts go into the differential and then there's nothing. "C240FHX3" was on the tag. Serial "0048338" I believe.
The truck's bumper and PTO winch both look like the one's i've seen on other M35's, but the front hood/fender do not look like an M35 to me. Rounded fenders and the whole hood flips.
Another thing I noticed to add to my "Not an M35" list;
The engine is a gasser, its a v8. Not sure what it is yet. "413" was written on the valve cover. Not really sure what it means though.
Anyone let me know what this is; or any other information you can give. Thanks.
Pictures:
These are all the pictures that have uploaded so far; i'll post the others later.
413 is a dodge big block same as a 440 just less cubes. the detroit tag was probably for detroit locker which as far as i know was offered factory in rockwells. i don't know big trucks that well, but it might just be a cab conversion or an oshkosh truck. do your own damn research, as it doesn't effect me if you don't know what it is. were you smart enough to check for a vin tag? probably not
Did FTE just crash or something?
Alright Dan, I was happy with the first part of that messege. Thanks for the information.
I've got my own research here.
REO M275 with a 413 Chrysler.
The rear axle's spiders stripped. PO was planning to make it a 4x4. Not sure where the gears went. Asked about them, havn't got a call back.
