I posted a while back about some problems i was having, it seems like they have all come at once and im about out of money... not giving up just going broke. About 2 or 3 weeks ago i replaced a bad HPOP and a cracked oil cooler(HPOP replaced oil cooler cracked the next day). After the HPOP replacement i noticed a hissing sound when boost built and surging in the turbo and the RPM. When i accelerate quickly the surging gets faster, i would say around 2800-3000 rpms it surges almost 200 rpms. The truck has always started kinda rough and ran rough when cold(since i bought it used about 8-10000 miles ago) but has seem to gotten worse. I have looked several times for a charge air leak but all boots are tight. When the truck is cold it smokes under acceleration but goes away once it gets up to operating temp. I just wanted to lump all of these things into one post and see if anybody had any ideas as to what might be causing all of this.
First things first: Get it code scanned. That sounds like major poopie when it starts. Probably injector stiction.
Hissing: You need to check the y-pipe for cracked flex joints and proper alignment. I always take it loose at the exhaust manifolds when I remove the turbo and realign the whole thing as it never seems to go back to where it was. You should have someone look for smoke under the hood while you blip the throttle.
Did you replace the egr cooler when the oil cooler was replaced?? You could also have a leaking egr cooler. The oil/egr coolers are normally changed at the same time since the egr cooler is so dependant on the oil coolers performance.
Would a balance/contribution test tell me if i had a stuck injector...it doesn't seem to have any loss in power...just ****ty starts and smoke when cold...
The EGR Cooler was deleted when the oil cooler was replaced.

good advise.
for the surge issue possible vgt selniod or sticking turbo.
No codes with my sct but im sure it doesnt read everything...guess ill have to go for broke with a mechanic...however i had the smoking and rough start symptoms before the HPOP and i had it changed at a pretty well known diesel shop...he ran it on a diagnostics machine (dyno type machine while the truck was driving) and told me as of the time i picked it up there was no codes...would bringing it to a ford dealership be much different?
You might want to check you FICM voltage, the procedure is in the stickies at the top of this forum. I say this is that I had starting problems and swapped the FICM due to low voltage now its back to normal.
