Automatic transmission problem

Automatic transmission problem

My 1989 bronco II stays on first gear until it hits about 5000 rpms then shifts to second. plus its starting to do the same on second it going to about 4000 rpms. i dont know much cars or trucks but id like some help on fixing my problem. ill be happy to provide any extra information about it.

1st thing I'd probably look at would be the vacuum line running from the engine to the transmission vacuum modulator. Make sure it is still connected and free of holes/cuts.

you might be right sine this started right after i hit a nasty pothole. only i dont know where to look for this. can you provide a little more information

Attached to the rear of the upper intake are several vacuum hoses (one goes to the brake booster, another will go to the cruise control, and so on). One of these hoses will head back down to the vacuum modulator attached to the passenger side of the transmission (kind of between the transmission and the cat converter/exhaust).
