but has changed gears on the problem I started a new one for the new possible problem
I have a issue where at middle to upper RPM with no load only I have a VERY loud knocking high speed
Rod Knock, main bearing? i recently just replaced the head gasket due to blown. so possible relation to the bad oil causing this issue?
I was able to replicate knock in neutral by punching the gas at low idle or holding at about 2100 rpm but only at about 21-2500 RPM could I replicate, I can replicate at a park position with trans in N. this way
i just pulled the oil pan but dont know what I am looking for yet to know what is what. I can "wiggle" the bottom of every rod just a bit so dont know what that means...
what is the next steps and could this be my problem to investigating if this is the problem. and since the now have the oil pan off what should I check and repair while I am here?
The rods will wiggle a little, this is normal. Buy some plastigage and check the clearances on the rods and mains. Keep the caps in order and orientation. You may find the problem by just looking at them.
so 2 of them wiggle "the wrong way" by that I mean they wiggle different then the rest... I pulled them and the bearing was totally copper looking with deep groves in the shaft and bearing... i saw the 010 on them which someone said means it was rebuilt at one point so figured gone this far replace it ...
You can do that but it could turn into good money after bad. If there are rod bores that need resized you will just end up chewing the bearings right back out. Same goes for the main bearing bores, if they aren't straight, round & aligned anymore they will chew up bearings as well. This engine more than likely needs some machine work done on it, something has caused this. I would take it out get everything checked out and go from there that way you know for sure what your getting into.
