I ordered a new engine wiring harness - the one that goes from 42 pin connector to injectors, GP's, etc on top of the engine. (here's the thread that led up to this: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...nning-yet.html )
Problem is, the harness that came is for a non-californicated (no GPCM) truck and my truck currently has GPCM.
I'd be delighted to ditch the GPCM and 'upgrade' to relay, but not sure how the PCM will like that. If its just a code, I can live with that until I get my chip reburned (or forever for that matter - I MISS MY TRUCK)
FN74 recently told me he added GPCM to his early '99, but I didn't get a chance for him to explain WHY??? However, he indicated PCM was OK with that. I'm hoping going the other way will be OK!!
Subscribing. The only reason I can think of this would not work would be if the GPCM does not get a ground signal from the PCM to energize your new GPR, or if the ground was constant which would burn it up. If that's the case, you could always wire up a push button to energize the GPR.
If you do get a GPCM code, the other issue would be a CEL, which may interfere with you passing inspection if there is one.
Thanks Chris. I'm desperate enough to try it. I'll report back in a little while. Actually, before I send power thru it I'll check back in case someone sez my truck will blow up or burn down...
aw man, the rep police said I have to spread the love around before I give ya any more reps!!!!
