a couple of guys here turned me onto this lil trick , fill the motor completely full of oil and let it soak and swell up all the seals and gaskets . old oil is fine . obviously drain all fluids , and lube in the tranny , diff , motor etc. and put fresh in . try to turn the motor over by hand to make sure she isn't locked up [ befroe you fill it full of oil and please remember to drain it out after a couple days and put fresh in it } , drain the fuel tank and blow out or clean out the lines and the tank you'd be suprised at the crap in them . check all the wiring and related stuff for shorts , broken / bare wires etc.. new plugs and tune up parts . take the carb apart and put a kit in it .then try to fire her up . after ya know she runs it's the fun things like brakes , lines that are bad , etc. etc... it will never end but thats part of the fun . oh yeah welcome to the barn find club . thats where my 53 came from and i got a thread on here called the derilict that followed / following me home showing the pics of my most recent barn find a 52 customline 2 door . all i gotta do is bleed the brakes and she's driveable .
I totally agree with cleaning out the gas tank I found out the hard way, got a 89 Toyota 4X4 Pickup and had to drain the tank and clean it out real good, you would not belive the junk that came out of it it had set for a couple years and had a locked up motor found one a 22re for it that had 80,000 on it and now it runs like it did before if you leave a EFI system with the tank empty or with very little gas in it it will collect moister and rust and turn the gas to crud that will mess with the fuel system.....
