I am needing to adjust the slop out of the steering box on my 73 F100. I checked the coupling and steering linkages, they are all in good shape. Manual steering.
By reading the manual I need to make sure the box is in its center position of travel then adjust the steering shaft adjuster screw till there is little play?
I don't have a torque wrench small enough to measure preload. It steers fairly easy now. I guess I will have to get a torque wrench if its hard to turn after the adjustment to adjust preload.
Anything I might be missing? Seems pretty easy to adjust.
It's easy to adjust, just do small increments at a time, like 1/8th a turn. It's pretty easy to adjust it too much and lock up the box, either in the driveway or worse while going down the road when youn least expect it.
