Ball joint adjusting sleeve?
I have a 1983 F150 4x4. After 300K miles I decided to replace what was left of the ball joints. I'm getting ready for reassembly but my Haynes and Chilton manuals both say to torque the adjusting sleeve to set preload. What adjusting sleeve? There's a camber bushing but it just slides over the top ball joint stud into the C. There's no threads on it, nothing to turn. It just locks into the two notches on the C and sets there. It popped out while I was hammering the knuckle off. Is the preload a step for a different type of axle? Do I just skip it and torque the joints to spec? Both books show it in the section for Dana 44 IFS. I'm really stumped on this one. I even bought the special spanner wrench the books said I would need before I started. Any help would be appreciated. I'm already two days into this and I'm still on the first side after fighting through all the rust and this is my only vehicle. Thanks.

3281 are the adjustment sleeves.
