F2 drive shaft

1950 F2 with a 302/C4 and 9" rear end. Has anyone switched from the dual drive shaft to a single? Is that even possible or desirable?

With the dual drive shaft/carrier bearing, the front shaft will need to be shortened about 11"-12". The rear shaft will need about 2" removed.

A single drive shaft would need to be roughly 62" long.

Can anyone describe why the dual shaft was originally used?

Thanks.

The 2 piece driveshaft has better support for long lengths, keeps angles at an optimum and reduces vibration. Since you're removing about 20% of it's length with your modifications, I think you could get away with a one piece, as long as your pinion angle is parallel with your crankshaft angle. But you can always check with your local driveshaft shop for their recommendations.
