Hello everyone!
I am doing a school art project about people who love Trucks. I'm looking for info. about why each person loves their truck. This project concerns Antique, classic, new etc. whatever your thing is. What do you look for when shopping for a truck?, Whats your relationship with your truck? Does it tick you off ever ? Even if its annoying, would you or would you not get rid of it for another? If so whats preventing you from doing so? The objective of my project is to show in some way how trucks have personality, and searching for the right truck or settling for the wrong one is similar to human love and matchmaking. Basically I'm making a metaphor for human love and relationships with that of the truck to human relationship. I know its funny but anyone whos interested in posting replies I would be appreciative. O yeah ...by the way.. I just got a 97 Ford Ranger and its red!
I love my truck. Sure it ticks me off sometimes, but we make up. It challenges me when something happens that I have to look for and fix. It also gives me something I know that I can fix. My truck has a personality. It doesn't like cold mornings. Runs hot for some unknown reason sometimes. It's not an antique, but it's mine. And I wouldn't get rid of it for anything.
I like my truck for a lot of reasons. First, it's BIG, and since I am 6'6", I need a BIG truck. Second, my truck sort of shares my personality, it's powerful, somewhat fast (for a big truck), but is bad on gas (not that kind) (basically, when I get hungry, it gets hungry). Also it is a nice looking truck, clean, for the most part, I myself, am, of course, cleaner than it is. It gets attention from the sound the 460 makes, and I get attention for my actions. Lastly, I got a Ford because it is dependable, like me, and won't let you down unless it's "sick", which is a rare situation. I think that pretty much covers all the bases.
I like my truck for many reasons. One is because I'm the only one in my high school that ones one, while everyone elce drives thier honda civics (sorry honda civic owners ) Also, I'm 6"1', maybe I'm not that tall, since the avereage height has increased probably from 5'9" to 5'11" by now. Anyway, any car I go into now, I feel " cramped", and would never drive another "car" in my life, if it was up to me. I also like my truck because of that cool deisel engine sound when running. But mainly because its BIG
Speaking of people who like thier truck's I've noticed that when another super duty owner drives by me in the oppisite direction, they all seem to wave at me. Cool, I thought, how many of you guys actually bother to wave at other passing super duty owners?
The real honest reason I have my truck is because it was free. But I have grown to love it. It is a bonding thing, like finding the right girl. I mean, you better love something you jump in and drive every day!
I am 6'3+, 220, and have blue hair.
My truck is big and blue.
...We match.
My truck is a beast, and I love it. I recently decided that I would keep it for a long time and work on it, until it is in pristine condition.
To my friend, Big Blue is just an old POS that is fun to ride in an immense. (These people need to learn how to park). To me, though, it is a work in progress that I love.
They will never know the joy of rebuilding a carburetor and getting everything working well. ...Poor kids.
As for annoying me, more than you can imagine. The air conditioner that came stock drives me absolutely insane. It does NOTHING but get in the way, other than the parts I removed. (Seriously, it's only, 110-112 F in the summer, WHO NEEDS A/C!?)
2x40, baby. 2 windows down, 40 MPH.
So yes, I love my truck a lot. It has flaws, but we work around them and accept each other for what we are. =)
I love Old Yeller, hes an old 1972 yellow and white 4x4. I suppose hes got some sentimental value. I got him back when my wife and i were dating. I bought it on July 5, 1997, the same day i gave her a ring. Hes 30 years old, and has some age issues, but i take care of them. Hes like an old dog you just cant bear to part with. Theres 53k on the odometer and still on the first lap so to speak. Hes the one i drive if the weathers bad and i need to get there, seldom lets me down. Brings a tear to my eye. "Sniff"
Well, my X has become both my pride - and my pain. I have never had a vehicle (or boat, or motorcycle, or anything else for that matter ) that I left alone and didn't modify or change. So I bought an Explorer and of course - 'have to' make it different. I decided I would build a Cobra Explorer.
This has been a great time, and I love my truck for so many reasons. But I am too particular for my own good - that is the pain... I have made this project into a truck that the SVT department at Ford would actually think about producing...
Well................I have a 77 F250 4X4 highboy, there are many like it but this one is mine. My truck loves me because I spend money on her and in return she gives me hours of enjoyment off-roading not to mention to intimidation factor when I roll-up on some weak Chevrolet.
I am happy when I drive my truck. I drive it everyday, work on it a couple of evenings a week and at least two or three week end days per month. I have been a mechanic (Ford) all my life. Old trucks are a really good hobby and I really enjoy Geezer rock and havin a beer in the garage while working on my old "BUG".
William in Atlanta
Well my truck and i have a very odd relationship. I love it very much and would not trade it (NO WAY). It has been good to me for the last 8 years. It does tick me off some times and i call it names, but then i apologize lol.
However i have noticed that when i do not put some thing new on it- it gets up set and acts up. SHHH ( I THINK IT IS ALIVE) i got the christine of trucks. But as soon as i put some thing on it the Hp increases and the throttle response increases.. very odd. even if i did not put anything that increases hp on..
Ponder on that for a while.. I know i am not the only one
My truck is a part of me, I got it when i was 15 and have loved it ever since. Its only 3 months younger then me so I feel its old age. It sits in the garage every winter because its my baby and I won't let it go out during the snowy cold days, it also doesn't react well to road salt either. I think it gets quiet jealous of the other trucks in my driveway but they don't have the personality of Chromed to the Nutz. I am building a 79 F150 right now and its just not the same as the 84, I really do like it but its just not my 84 and it never will be. I do like to spread my love around to all my Ford trucks though, its just like having kids.
As for why I am obsessed with fords I am not to sure. My dad was always a ford guy and so was the rest of my family but I guess I just sort of took it to the extreme and now I sell them for a living and its great.
Wow, the bios are really stacking up here. I thank you all for your heart felt truck love sentiment. The truth is I dont know a whole lot about trucks and have some questions. Okay now dont laugh... When you refer to a "highboy" model does that mean it has beefed up suspension or something? Like its high off the ground? duh.. or what makes your cab "custom"? I get it that when the numbers goes up it means more horsepower. Did you know that a "Lariat" means a lasso? I'm really diggin' the personal quotes by the way. Are there any women out there with truck love desires or experiences? When you shop for a truck ,( new or used) do have specific criteria you look for? ie. height, color, curves, age, leather, gearing(4 sp. 5, manual, auto,) Does rear wheel drive leave you yearning for 4 wheel, or do you have a special affection for rear wheel drive or even a particular type? Maybe your looking for a flashy leasing package with all the whistles and bells but you have no intent of going the "long haul" and you're just looking for a little fun.
Ive decided my angle on the project is to create a personal dating service designed to couple people with their dream truck. It will involve a slideshow with my potential clients and their wants, petpeeves etc. like a regular personal add and then I will attempt to pair them with the appropriate vechicle. "God I hope this comes out funny." O yeah and a brochure with success stories. etc. I Love the truck talk inuendos too. I think I will probably have to stage alot of this and Ive been out taking pictures of different types of trucks (including my own). I even got stuck in a ditch and a nice fellow truck owner pulled me out with a chain. More later..but thanks again, Pappesa
