I was just toying around with options for my 360, and was wondering:
Could I keep the same crank, use a 390 piston (such as Federal Mogul's cheap P381NP with 1.66 compression height) and put the 6.7" stroker rod together?
According to my math, I'd get about 9.45:1 static compression (assuming 72cc heads, gasket bore and thickness, etc.).
Are there any piston/rod combos that work here? I don't want to drop the crank if I don't have to. Thanks.
.....I'm not sure why he does not want to remove the crankshaft. Trying to replace pistons with the block still in the truck??
Hmmm... must be. If the engine were on a stand you would LIFT the crank, not drop it.
I would reckon the easiest thing to do is to find a running 390 engine and swap motors rather than mess with trying to monkey new pistons and half-assed rods on a crappy 360 crank.
That'll about do it, it needs a 390 crank then. I was just hoping. I'm planning on tearing it all apart, but leaving the block in the truck.
I was just wondering if I can leave it technically a 360 still by leaving the crank in place, unbolting the rods, driving out the old piston/rings/rods, and putting new ones in place that get better compression.

Guess not, and thanks.
If all you want is higher compression then you have the option of having the heads milled and installing thinner head gaskets.
