I'm a shade tree mechanic without a shade tree... or a garage. That is to say that the previous owner of my house transformed the garage into a shop and the doors are not big enough to pull my truck through.
Problem: I can't get "Classic Car" insurance, according to my agent, because the vehicle is not stored in a secure structure (read: garage or barn).
I bought truck in Oklahoma and have to have insurance to get out-of-state inspection so that I can get it registered then in-state inspection. The title is already taken care of.
Dang, I'm on Farm Bureau and they told me it would be about $300 per year with Liability only. I thought that was rather stiff since we have two other vehicles and a house insured through them.
Matty, the problem may be the "classic car" insurance. I am going to add my '50 onto my existing policy with State Farm as it will be a driver. Check and see if you can get regular insurance. This will work to get it inspected. If after you rebuild the truck and have a gem that you want to protect, then go after the Classic insurance.
Gil, I was going to just get liability on the same policy with my family car and pickup but they wouldn't do it for some reason, it being a 52 so American Collectors put it on the policy with Homade but because it is a F6 with 10,000.00 agreed value is 8.00 more a year than Homade with a 28,000.00 agreed value, whats up with that, still checking for different coverage as it's all due in June, Garry
Garry, I'm going to have to do more checking but right after I got it, I checked and looked like State Farm would cover it. May find out that this is not the case when I get ready to buy the insurance.
When I first got my '49 running, I got it added to my regular insurance for liability only. I have Farm Bureau ins. They didn't have a problem with it. Later, I got Grundy with a $25,000 agreed value. Cost me $209.75 / year.
Mine is on my State Farm policy with my 2000 Ranger and 07 Dodge Ram. There is no stipulation that it be parked indoors, it is an "agreed value"-classic car policy and it costs me about $120/yr.--cheaper than Haggerty w/o the restrictions. Good Luck.
tumblin, if you do some checking you may find their agreed value doesnt mean that's what they'll pay you. in texas anyways.
hotwater6, where at in clay county? i'm in wichita falls. i actually took out a separate policy for our truck. it 125 or so with farmers. we have our other cars with state farm. a friend of ours is a new farmers agent so we thought we would give her a try.
I'm in Henrietta. I've got our local Farmers Ins. agent looking into it. He is the one that originally told me about JC Taylor and Hagerty Ins. before we discovered the whole garage issue.
just had a customer pick their car up a few minutes ago from henrietta. sure like dealing with your tag office better than the one in wichita county. they are so layed back and easy going. ours is packed full of witches.
