i cant wait till i have enough exp to be called a shade tree mechanic. im expecting my first son.Im hoping that i can have make memories, working, getting dirt under my nails in the shade under the big oak tree.Who else enjoys the days under the shade tree?
I was brought up the same way; I remember my Dad pulling his truck under the big oak in our yard and pulling the engine...those days. Do you remember the car show "Shade Tree Mechanic" which evolved to Crank & Chrome then to all those other shows on the Speed channel.

I remember that show. Good times!
I have no trees, nor have I worked under any trees. Maybe I am a notree wrench?
No shade tree work here, but I did have a dirt floor in the garage of first house we bought after getting married. I hated crawling under any car back then. Now I have a lift and all of the tools I need. A shade tree will work for now, but trust me, there's nothing like having your own lift in a metal building.
I am lucky enough to have a nice shop and than a small shop with the bead blaster and other equipment in it. But it seems like I do most of my work on the concrete pad outside the shop, to much crap inside......
I used to be a "Parkway Curb" mechanic. The Trees were too far away. Today, I have a very nice shop with almost (you never finish) every piece of equipment I need.
No trees around my driveway. I've got a maple in the back yard. But the neighbors complain to the city if I work on my vehicles on the grass.
Its bad enough you live in a cold place fordman. I'm sorry but if my neighbors said anything to me about working on MY grass. THATS JUST SAD MAN. Wait i don't have neighbors.

They complain to the city when I work on my driveway too! They just don't have the same appreciation for my fine weathered MN vintage tin! Or what's left of it!!
