My disc brakes on my '02 F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 squeak like there are no pads left (metal on metal). I removed the wheels and found that all of the pads are like brand new. Any suggestions? Also, when I'm cruising at speed and have to hit the brakes suddenly, the truck wobbles & vibrates. I believe this is from the rotors needing to be turned. Would the squeak also be caused by this? By the way, the truck has 97K miles on it. Thank you in advance for your help.
Squeeks can be caused by a couple of items...
1. disc brake dust build-up/contaimination on the rotors/pads.- solution- pull wheels, lightly sand rotors/pads, clean with brake Kleen or similar product (just spray and let drip dry
2. Heat buildup which the shims installed between the pads & caliper pistons are missing or, well, need to remove the shims, apply disc brake anti squeel glue, let dry 7 re-assemble
3. Shims are cheaply made or bake liings with higher brake coefficients than oem are used (ceramics are typically not) & you have to either buy or make shims out of stainless steel.
