I have a 93 F-150 4X4 with 60K miles. My truck makes an intermittent metalic sounding squeak when traveling down the road. The squeaking stops when I press on the brake pedal. A garage recently inspected the brakes in conjunction with an oil change and found that the brake pads are good. Any suggestions on what the squeak might be, whether I should be concerned, and what I can do to prevent it.
Even though the pads still have a lot of life left, to get rid of the noise, you will have to remove the pads, wire brush all of the metal to metal contact points of both the pads & caliper. Then before reassembly, apply "caliper grease" lightly to the same metal to metal contact points. For the inboard pad, make sure the rattle clip is installed at the bottom of the pad. For the outboard pad, gently hammer the upper tangs down until the pad has to be "forced" into its resting place. Now you will be noise free for a good while.

by the way, make sure you install the slider pins in the correct position, one side is wider then the other, the wide side faces the caliper in most cases.

I recently cured the same noise on my truck doing all of what Phillip said plus I had the rotors resurfaced . What I found was because the rotors were warped they would touch the pads unevenly creating that squeaking noise . I also replaced the shims on the pads adding a little disc brake quiet stuff on the pads . I also cleaned & adjusted the rear brake shoes . I have great brakes , no noise , solid pedal & the brake pedal doesnt pulsate .
