my brother was driving my f150 in the yard it has a fuel injected 460 in it... he said it was like the truck ran out of gas (shaking and sputtering) he filled the tank with 20 more liters or so and it did not start back up but i guess they used either on it and said it fired up i have not checked this myself because i have been out of town working i just got back .. i so far have checked that it is priming and there is fuel in the fuel rail now i guess my questions would be what should i check next what should be the fuel pressure be at the little valve and has anyone had this happen to them? it does have a new fuel filter
My guess would be bad fuel pump, bad fuse or relay. You should be able to hear the pump run when you first turn on the key for about 1 to 3 seconds If you have dual tanks switch to the other tank and see if it starts. If I remember right the fuel pressure should be between 40 & 60 psi
thank you ! this truck is a 1987 the pump in the frame is a high pressure pump then? im guessing because its not starting on either tank so im guessing this could be whats wrong maybe its just to weak? i know its turning on again any help is greatly appreciated
No, the pump, actually 2 of them are in each tank. To check the pumps jumper 12 volts to the rear terminal wire (the wire to the terminal on the solenoid, not the terminal on the starter solenoid. The pump, which ever tank is selected, should run. The tank pumps are low pressure pumps that feed the high pressure pump. There is an interia switch (supposedly activated in an acident) that when activated shuts off the pumps. You have to push the red button to reset it.
ya i know about the inertia switch and the in tank pumps but its not firing up on either tank and they both worked when i left town and i know the pump in the frame rail is at least turning on but im wondering if its just weak?

Electric pumps don't suck worth a *****. That's why the pumps in the tank to feed the high pressure pump. Even if the h.p. pump is running, no fuel to it means no fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Have you check your fuel pressure at the rail to see what it is at?
i used a wire tester to check my injector wires and as im turning it over it does not light it up what do i check from here? is there a fuse or relay or?
I guess my injectors are working I took a spare injector and it is poping so I have spark and I have power to the injectors. When I turn the truck on I can hear the relays click and I have fuel in the fuel rail I am lost now could this be a bad computer problem or somehow my timing is now off? What way would I turn the distributer if I wanted to advance it a hair?
You might have fuel in the rail but without any pressure it still won't run. When you say it's popping do you mean it's trying to start or are you talking about the injector? Also when you say you have spark do you mean power to the injectors or spark at the plugs? And as far as the computer they can die anytime. Still sounds like fuel pump issues. Have you checked the pressure yet?

the injector is what i am saying that is popping that's why i know they have power and i know i have great spark and no i have yet to find a gauge i can use to test it and until i get paid i guess i will have to wait ... i just figured it would at least try and fire off starting fluid but it made no difference
