If you follow the wire, it goes and get's into this "clip/plug" thing then continues down next to the spark plugs, where it is part of this box thing with 3 or 4 wires. Then, that box thing goes and plugs into this small cylinder thing next to the coil, and the other wire goes into this whole bunch of wires...
I would love to help you out, but the vague descriptions and repeated use of the word "thing" is really confusing me. Pictures will probably help!

That is correct. That hose goes to the gas tank. Fumes from your gas tank go into the charcoal canister, and then another hose from the large port on the fuel bowl of your carburetor also goes into the charcoal canister, to collect gas fumes. In addition, there should be still another hose with a purge solenoid that "purges" these vapors by sending them back into the engine for burning. This helps reduce the smell of gas from your vehicle.
i am working on a 85 f250 with a 460 engine and it has a durasprk ign and the round coil. it has been sitting for 15 years no spark no fuel pump. put a new from amazon, ign box and it sparked for a while. then i left the key on and came back a week later . battery was dead and there was no spark when i took the battery out to charge it and put it back in called all around, and nobody checks them anymore. too old. . how do i check the ign box without specialty tools? it has 7.5 volts on the positive side of the coil in run and 12v in start.
Sorry to say if the key was left on even for a few hours and it is not running the box burns out.
Being you left it on for a week I would call it (well done) toast and just get another new one and dont leave the key on not running
BTW even if the store could check it, it can check good but still be bad. This is a problem when it has spark but dies going down the road and after sitting a few mins. or an hour it will start and run again for a bit.
This happens because the box heats up and stops sparking. You pull it take to the store when it is cold and you have spark so you put it back in and the same thing happens, heats up no spark.
BTW II: you dont want to go with the cheap on the box - you get what you paid for and could fail in a short time.
God luck

SNIP.......

The rotor is still going round and round, correct?
The 7.5 volt reading proves the ignition module is still being powered ON. And passing current as it should.
Also, the primary ignition circuit is intact, all the way to the ground point inside the distributor.
The coil will (should) get warm when you leave the key ON.
There's a way to generate a single voltage pulse from the distributor to the ignition module. You hit the side of the distributor, with the plastic end of a screwdriver, near the magnet pickup. This is supposed to shock the magnet and generate a single voltage pulse. The coil then should output 1 spark per whack.
Full disclosure.... I have not done this test but other smart people have said it's in the manual and it works. Good luck with this. Let everyone know if the test works.

Are there even any good ones if you do want to spend the money? I havent been able to find anyone that has luck with any of the boxes out there these days.
This is the one I would recommend. Not sure if it's still available at the local Napa stores.
Back in my junkyard cruising days I would always buy these if I found them. But only if they looked exactly like the photo above. If I recall correctly they were $6 used.
I felt it was the best new part option available, and at that time Napa auto parts stores charged about $70 for them.
Good luck, Jim

GM 4 PIN ignition module used to be a popular thing for "us cheap folks", this one is $11 with free shipping.
I used this system for over 10 years with my original square coil on an 1986 F150.
But then, for me, the primary challenge isn't just to fix the truck ... But to fix it with whatever I have in my junk drawer and of course not spending any money.

I got mine from NAPA and it was top of the line, yea not cheap, but I have not had any problems in 6 years and I have put a lot of miles on the truck.
Today was over 60 miles pulling a 20' enclosed trailer and 2 weeks ago 240 miles round trip to drag back a Jeep.
