MORE Fuel pump help! Need schematic!
1987 BII 2.9. I suspect that the in-tank low pressure pump has quit. While under the truck listening, when the key is switched on (but not started), the HP pump in the frame rail definitely runs for about 2-3 secs, and after that, there is a "CLICK" from the vicinity of above the tank, but there is NO pump-run sound coming from the tank. I have both Chilton and Haynes manuals, but the schematics in both stop with the line "to inertia switch" and don't include any wiring details for either of the two pumps.
So, three questions;
Do I definitely HAVE the low-pressure pump in the tank on an '87?
Shouldn't I be able to hear it run when the key is switched on?
Does anyone have a schematic or wiring diagram for the connections to the in-tank pump so that I can confirm it's getting power?
Thanks!
- Jay
The pumps are wired in parallel from the intera switch. So both should run at same time.
The most common problem I have had with my B2 was the connector on top of the tank going intermittan connection. Its a pain to get to, but I have gotten to it through the rear left wheel well(long arms will help) and reseated the connector afew times. Other than that you probly will have to drop the tank and replace the pump. Hopefully your tank is almost empty as 21 Gal of gas is heavy!
