well guys ive got an 87 ford ranger ex cab 2.9 5spd that my grandpa gave me for my 18 th birthday. right before he gave it to me we had it bored 60 over new injectors, pistons, new stock cam, were put in it then i put a set of pace setter hedders on it with a good exhaust. i was wondering if anybody had some other performance ideas i could add on. also does anybody besides jet make a chip for these trucks
twwtruck, to get better performance from your 2.9 V6 you should use something other than a stock cam. You may need to look around a bit for them but there should be something out there that will fit your needs. The "Jet" chip may be the best option for that type of system but there could be something newer by now. Sorry I can't be more specific. It's been a good while since I looked around for any 2.9 stuff. One thing to keep in mind if you have the original heads. They like to crack, even without overheating. Aftermarket heads are stronger. Ask a machine shop which ones they recommend. Sounds like you'll have some fun though.

i didnt wanna put a whole bunch of money in the engine since i will be planning on v8 swap eventually. but i will look into a performance cam
Alot going on where people say that the, 2.8, 2.9, 3.0 V-6 family has no performance future and is a waste of time. There's a engine shop that builds these engines for racing and sells parts and engine modification. ARI Engines, out of Grand view, MO. Check'em out. If these people are making money out of these engine they must know something everyone else don't.
