The place i work has a fleet of 08 250s and 350s. The one i was driving the other day had boost pressure fluctuation while the DPF was in regen. All the others i have driven never did it. Is this common or is there something they should know. Most of the people that drive these don't know squat about trucks or diesel for that matter. We are the ones that are supposed to write the trucks up for maint if we think is needed. It scares me to think how many of these going down the road probably need something done to them. We are extremely hard on these trucks and some of the 08s with 80K plus run better than the 09 silverardos with only 7k.
During a regen the boost is controlled, kept to a minimum unless engine load is high, like with a heavy trailer.
HP is reduced to 325 also. During regen the engine runs on reduced boost but the power is still there by using fuel. So basically, power is steady but how it makes the power changes.
The fluctuation? Do you mean that it's different during regen than it is normally or do you mean a rapid change like the needle on the gauge is bouncing?
If there is an issue with the EGR valve would it be possible to have exhaust gas flow problems to the turbos?
Cruise was set to 75 on the interstate, when it went into regen the needle on the boost gauge would go up then down to 0, then back up then back down. Didn't feel any type of loss of power during all this either.
I am glad you posted this, my truck does the same thing. When I go into regen my boost starts to fluctuate 5-7 pounds on the gauge, sometimes dropping all the way down to 0. I dont notice any performance changes but I can definately hear the turbo cycling back and forth. Almost sounds like a waste gate opening and closing which I know we don't have.
