I think I changed my mind on the 2000 f650 w/ the cat engine and found a 04 f650 w/ the cummins engine allison trans. From anybody's experience which would be the better choice for a work truck that will be loaded down the majority of the time. I would also like to do a few mods to up the horse power like 50 hp nothing huge. I am not sure what hp engine it is, I do know the 2000 has the 3126e engine. How do I find out what hp ratings these are? Any advise on the better choice of the 2 trucks as well is greatly appreciated.
A cummins 5.9 is a tad small for an F650, but for sure better than the 3126 you were looking at. Being that it's an 04, it'll be the Common Rail, and has proven itself almost as reliable as mechanical injection on the 89-98 5.9's. An 8.3 would be rock solid best choice, but the 5.9 will do fine for up to 30k pounds. There should be an emissions sticker on the driver side of the timing case. It'll tell you hp rating, valve lash, and other stuff. Gaining hp isnt too hard, worry about that after you buy it, and get used to it.
