i have a '76 f150 with a c6 tranny. lately it's been leaking in the front. fluid comes out b/w the bell housing and steel plate that covers the flywheel. any idea what could be leaking? is it the front shaft seal or is there something else? (any type of overflow on these things?)
You have to pull the transmission just enough to remove the torque converter and after you pull the converter off, just pull out the old seal and press in the new one. I've heard it is imperative that you lube this with grease before putting the converter back in. I did anyways.
That's the only seal unless your pump is loose. But I think you'd know if it was. You could put a wrench on the bolts, but I've never heard of one coming loose. Its always the converter seal that goes bad. Its either the converter/front seal or the engine rear main seal in that area, but the engine wouldnt leak trans fluid, so through deductive reasoning, thats the only one.
