Side bed has gas doors for side tank and rear tank. There is nothing there when you open the side tank door. Rear door has gas tank that leaks real real bad if you fill it more than half way. Everything I have looked at so far doesn't specifically list an F350 Trailer Special for tanks. LMC lists their tanks for F150 & F250.
Are all the tanks interchangeable for all the models?
Anything specifically I should be looking for?
I'm new to Fords..
Thanks,
Scott

Reason: added year
???? I have a trailer special crew cab 2wd f350 and if I recall the frame is narrower, like 34" instead of the 37" and the rear springs are the same as the cab/chassis or like the highboys..the 2 -1/4" vs. 3" wide rear springs..that bing the case the std. aft fuel tank won't work...check to see if yours is the same, does the aft tank look like this?
[quote=sasamsen;8769573]Just crawled out from under her a few minutes ago!
Springs are 2 1/4"
The shield that covers the tank is 26 3/4" So tank is approx. 25" wide
Inside frame is 28 1/4"
that being the case you can't use the normal aft tank that is available by MOST distributors, if you are able to locate one..... verify their measurements w/ those of your existing tank..most distributors/manufacturers are selling the tanks for the 37" wide frames, not the 34" wide frames
Yeah, so far all I've been seeing is the standard size. That bronco site everyone links to on here has poly tanks that fit the long wheel base for the side mount. Maybe I should look into adding the side tank.
There is a ceramic based gas tank sealer available which will seal your tank, I used it on a motorcycle tank w/ no problems and I bought it for my 4wd supercab front fuel tank, another fuel tank whiuch is not reproduced, but have not sealed it yet..
Looks like the stock 19 gal tank out of these trucks.
I pulled one out of a '73 Super Camper Special to run in the rear of my 74 crew cab highboy (narrow frame as well).
From what I have seen the aftermarket replacements are NOT available for these tanks. I haven't found a replacement sending unit either
BUT, I had a buddy loan me his sender from a replacement tank from a 37" wide frame truck and it looked pretty similar. Similar enough to grab one and modify or run it...
His is the shiny one of course, and the other MESS is what came out of the 73 tank I grabbed.
I was shocked to see it was a plastic tank. I didn't know they used plastic tanks back in the 70's. I guess I should have dropped it before I bought the sealer. I just bought a used tank & skid plate off ebay for it.
Here are pics of the sending unit from mine. I don't know how accurate it is? I could never go past half tank without gas pouring out. My gauge read a little below E when I dropped the tank. I siphoned another 2 to 2.5 gallons out of the tank after I dropped it.
