Explorer Door Handle
I have a 1997 Explorer Sport and the driver's door handle return spring has broken or has come loose. I would like to replace the handle but the handle but what looks like "blind" or "pop" rivets, or "Hi-Locs" are attaching the handle onto the door. If so, are these rivets available other than from dealers and are special tools needed? Or am I completely out in left field?

They are peel rivets -1/4" x grip range .090" - .115" Marson stock #42372. You can break off the peels inside the door with a small pair of diagonal cutters and then punch them out or you can drill them out with a 1/4" drill bit. It is easier to replace the rivets with button head 1/4" bolts (available in chrome from Ace hardware) and nylock nuts than to use rivets. Recommend getting door lock rod clip while you are in there-
