I have a 2001 Ranger with a v6 4.0 liter automatic 4 wheel drive. Will not run check engine light flashes and all that good stuff scanned it and got these codes P0303, P0113, P0174, P0302, and P0306. Any ideas?
My guess is that your severe misfire has caused additional damage. P0303, P0302, and P0306 indicate that at least three cylinders are misfiring. P0174 indicates that a lean condition has been detected. This could be due to a number of things and could be the result of the misfires, but could also be the cause of them. P0113 indicates that the intake air temperature sensor is heading an excessively high temperature. This could be due to a fault in the sensor, but could also be due to an actual heat problem.
Here is my theory as to what may have happened, though test will need to be done to confirm. This theory is the most probably situation because multiple yet unrelated cylinders are being affected. I suspect the P0113 is unrelated.
Phase 1: A leak formed in the intake due to a rotted vacuum hose or a failed seal. This allowed unmetered air to enter the engine resulting in a lean condition.
Phase 2: The lean condition could have cause valves to warp or burn or for a head to crack. This results in a low compression situation on the affected cylinders. This in turn results in misfires.
Phase 3: The misfires cause the catalytic converters to overheat and melt, plugging the exhaust resulting in a severe loss of power, perhaps even enough to prevent the engine from running.
The only plausible alternative theory I have is that you may have a head gasket problem. This would produce many of the same symptoms.
I just replaced the o-rings on the fuel injectors and the intake manifold gasket it ran fine for a few weeks and then this happened. I also got brand new plugs wires and coil pack.
Yea all the wires are installed correctly. Forgot to mention though I took the air filter out and it had a bunch of oil on it and the intake manifold a bunch of oil in it as well.
I got fuel pressure and the injectors are workin and I got spark. Oil has a bunch of gas in it and we just finally found antifreeze in the oil and with no oil cap on it runs fine.
