I'm in a rush to buy two front backing plates for my 1996 F250 4x4. I'm pretty sure it is just a Dana 50 (three screw hub cover).
I'm having a hard time finding them and was wondering what other models and years Ford trucks backing plates I can be looking for that will also fit my truck. Is there an aftermarket backing plate? Thanks for you help.
Thank you for the correction on my terminology. Bronco Graveyard has them for $60 a pop, plus shipping is $130. That is quite steep for two pacman-shaped pieces of metal IMO.
Anywhere else I can locate them, preferably used? I'd look on eBay but again I am wondering if I can use plates from any other years or models.
Had to go to the local Ford dealer and got them for $42 each.
I thought about trashing them (it looks like a lot of you guys roll w/o them) but with my awesome luck I'd end up damaging the back of the rotor or something...
I've had mine off for 2 years now; rotors look good on backs. The dust shields would scrape on the rotor as they fell apart from rusting; it's been peaceful without them. But if I could buy them reasonably; I'd put them back on.
Yeah, I've been running without dust shields for seven years now, and the lack of them hasn't contributed to any problems. I did have to change a rotor, but that was my own stupid fault in not inspecting the brake pads often enough!
BDFD...there's two sides to the coin...on one hand, you've already bought the shields, so you might as well throw 'em on. On the other hand, I've never heard of anyone that's had a missing-shield-related problem, and I know in THIS household, $84 can buy much-needed groceries!
You won't find anyone more wishy-washy than me...

Groceries? Who needs groceries? $84 will pay for an oil change and enough gas to get over the state line!
Ha, yes, $84 would certainly buy a lot of groceries but it is a small price to pay to satisfy my acute OCD. I'd lose sleep if the shields weren't on there. Well, not really but...
Now I'm off to atttempt pound out studs and hub housings from old rotors...
