just bought (traded for, actually) this 77 today, look at signature, any way, i'm wandering, if I buy a set of lockout hubs (warn or mile marker, etc), wil they go right in place of my stock, fulltime, un-unlocking hubs?
I believe if you have a fulltime 4x4 that you need to put a kit in your transfer case to get part time. I dont think it will move if you just put lockouts on a full time rig. Seems like ive tried that before, but I cant remember for sure. Maybe i just heard that.
If it's like the full time 4x4 of my dad's '75 K5 blazer, you will need a kit that alters the guts of the transfer case as well as the hubs. The kit essentially replaces the "differential" that's in the t-case with a set-up more like the standard part-time t-case. As was indicated, if you don't change out the differential in the transfer case, then, when you unlock the hubs, the differential will send all the power to the easiest place, just like any open differential. If I may ask, are you trying to convert to part time 4x4? Personally I preferred the full time 4x4 type system we had in that Blazer.
okay if you put lockout's on it the drive shaft and the axle shaft will still turn with the motor's rpm the only thing that will be differnet is the hubs won't be ingaged. I've done it before. these guys are thinking of a quadratrac system if you put lock outs on a old jeep cherikee it wont go until you lock them in the ford are not like that now if you are just wondering if the lockout will fit the fulltime hubs YEP i've bought severial full time front end to put under my part time trucks...
maybe i wasn't too clear, the original 203 is gone, 205 is in it's place, i just asked about the hubs because the bolts(studs, actually) that hold the fulltime hubs on look bigger than the ones in the pictures of hubs in the catalogs

You don't have the 3550 lb front-end do you? At least, that's what it is on my '74. With that front-end, you get these huge hub locks. My original was a closed-spindle but I have a '76 front-end now with open spindle and disc brakes that was from a full-timer.
Anyway, just measure the size of the hub and make sure whatever you buy is going to fit.
you will need external locking hubs for you highboy. some after markets hubd use large allen screws in stead of the bolt's also any external locking hub from a ford dodge and chevy interchange I got my set off a chevy with external locking hubs.
