Hullo all. I just noticed that my 2008 does not have a hitch on it. I can't believe I haven't noticed until now (maybe the awesome Forest Green color distracted me ). Anyway, I'm looking around for one, and found one on my local Craigs List, but it's off of a 2006. Will this hitch fit mine (Factory Ford hitch), or did they change the frame for the 2008-up models?
Do you mean the reciever hitch under the bumper? Strange, do you have tow mirrors, trailer brake controller, wiring and plugs, if you do, i suspect you got ripped. Check the spec sheets for your truck. I would go with an after market brand name hitch, reese ect. |You will also need the wiring for plugs, controller ect, likely ford your best bet there, as its all plug and play. TBC controller is wired into computer and master cylinder so thats a tech job to flash ect.
I kinda wondered about that...I do have the tow mirrors, TBC, and all the plugs and stuff are back there tucked up in the bumper. I had a new 7-way put in the bed when I had my 5th wheel hitch put in. Everything is there but the hitch. Now you have me wondering...did I lose it at the place I had the 5th wheel hitch put on???
Well, I will look into that, but for now, would a Factory Ford hitch from an '06 fit on an '08?
I have never heard of a lariat truck that didnt have a hitch installed, esp since you have everything else too! Sounds like the PO removed it for some reason.
All 2008 and ups I know for sure are suppose to have the 12.5K receiver with the plugs installed from the factory. If you bought it new, then I would be driving right down there for a one-sided conversation.
TBC/tow mirrors is an option...trailer towing package, but the reciever is standard.
The hitch is standard on all '08 Super Duties; someone prior to you must have removed it. I do not think the '06 hitch will fit, but only the guy behind the parts counter at Ford can tell you for sure.
I have the hitch from my '08 F-450 for sale; I just called Ford and the price is $305. It has never been used, it was removed within days of my getting the truck. I will sell it for $100 plus shipping. It would be shipped from zip 22401 to your location. I cannot weight it right now because last night I loaded it on a trailer to take it to a camping rally swap meet I am going to this weekend. And of course it is under several other items. I seriously doubt that anyone will buy it at this rally. It is a 2 1/2" (Class V) receiver with the reducer to 2" as provided from the factory.
I would prefer that you check with Ford to see if the '08 frame for the F250 is the same as the F450.
my 2000 lariet did not come with a hitch. it now has a aftermarket hitch now. when i switched from 16" wheels to 18" ' s i couldnt get the 18" spare to fit inside the hitch. the later one have the mounting bolts inside the spare tire are. my aftermarket has them on the outside of the hitch. the later one gives you about 3" more space for the spare. if you go aftermarket just check that your spare will fit.
Well, you guys are right. It was on the window sticker as standard equipment. So at least that part is solved. Now I need to determine if it's been missing since I got it, or after I got the 5th wheel hitch put on.
BTW, I got it used, from Carmax. And I cannot remember if it was on there, but as much as I looked around it before I bought it, something like that I think would have stood out pretty obvious. I'll keep you posted, and David...I might take you up on that if I can't figure out where it disappeared.
Alrighty then, so here's how it all played out. I called Carmax, and they said there was no hitch on the truck when they got it. I am waiting on the pictures they took to double check, but I'm fairly confident they are right. When I got home, I looked under there, and you can see for sure where one was on there at one time, but it looks to have been off for quite a while (faint outlines of where it was bolted up). So, for whatever reason, the previous owner thought he needed that hitch worse than I did. I hope he enjoys it.
Now, I found one locally here for a really good price. Thanks David, but with shipping, and this one being local and all, I'm going to pick this one up tomorrow. Gotta have something to pull my boat with ya know!!
Oh, and I called the dealer here, and both parts and service (had to find out the torque..203 ft lbs..dang!) verified that it is the same hitch between a 2006 and a 2008 (same part #).

David-
Since the OP is not interested I might be and I could probably drive to your place and you would not have to hassle with the shipping.
Let me know when you get back from your trip if you have the boilts as well.
Thanks.
Okay folks, I thought it would be a good idea to follow-up on this. I finally got around to getting the hitch put on. Yup...it fits perfectly. The 7-way and 4-way connector was all bunged up on this hitch, but that's okay, I have a perfectly good one jammed up in my bumper. The yo-ho's who installed my 5th wheel hitch and bed connector almost made the wiring harness too short...it was prettytight to get the connector to the hitch side, but I got it. Now I can tow my boat again! Woo Hoo!
My guess is that the prior owner had a Ranch Hand or similar rear replacement bumper and decided to move it to the new truck when the one you have was traded.
When I used to work for them we had piles of factory receivers on pallets. That was years ago though.
That's certainly a good possiblility JKBRAD. And I hadn't even thought about that. I got my hitch for my other truck that way. It was a take-off where someone got a rear hitch upgrade. Anyway, I'm good to go now and all is well in the world!
