Does anyone have, know, or can get the paint code for forest service green? thanks Also i guess it is called that. IF it has a different name that would be good to know too. Well any info would be good. Thanks
Forest service green is a specialty color put on at the factory, just for government vehicles. We have it on our Taurus, (one of the kids is out in the Green Machine now, or I'd see if there was a code on the tag.)
An automotive paint store ought to be able to dig the code up for you. It's not a stock color, but it is factory. They stopped using it and went to white to improve resale value.
Just for a little trivia: Back in the late 70's, the FS tried to improve the looks of the green on the F100 by painting, what amounted to a rainbow effect diagonally up the front qrtrs. The colors were something like orange, yellow, red and something else. Each color stripe was about 4" wide, so the whole stripe was about 1 1/2' total, (it wasn't just an accent - it was a statement...). They only had it done for a couple years. I remember thinking it was pretty cool at the time.

If you get a chance can you post the code or get it? also is there a name for it? thanks

Metallic ain't what it use ta be. I think you're thinking of metal flake. And that green is more of a snot green, way to lite for what the forest servce uses.
That's a forest service truck, up for auction, same color as the forest service car I bought and it's how they've looked for years - snot green... They've never had any metalic, (and yes, I've painted pearl, metalic and metal flake). That's why they've gone to white. It's a custom factory color, painted in the jams, engine compartment, all over. A real bear to repaint and hit everything.
There's so many different colors made by different manufacturers, that your best bet would be to find an automotive paint store or bodyshop that will dig through the catalogs for the code you want. Like, the color will be the same, but the code will be different for each manufacturer. Does that make sense? Call around to these places and tell them you want a, say DuPont, cross reference for a Ford paint code of FC4 and it should be Forest Service Green.
It's not a common color in many parts of the country. You might have to educate the counter people where you are. They are used to dealing with brand/year specific colors all day. Since this is a factory color that is the same no matter if it's Dodge, Ford or Chevy, it can throw them off. We have a bunch of FS rigs running around here, so the counter people are familiar with it. They don't need to try and match anything, the code will be in the book someplace, probably with asteric and footnote.
For those not used to this color, it does look kind of odd. I bought the Taurus to be driven 35,000 miles a year and it was a good price. Thought about painting it something else, but it kind of grew on us. You can always find your car in a crowded parking lot and it enters us in a kind of club of other FS green vehicles. You wave when you see another one...
